Og

Was Kewt Og? Not at the start. Og was his own man from the first week of retail: Usenet was talking about him in February 2000, the DNN interviewed him, Schattenkind chased him round Eastham for a year. But the DNN already had Kewtsquirrel running the monarchy's internal workings in August 2000, Og never once uploaded to TreeStats (his record there was built from his vassals), and Dranven, in the tree for years, never met the man behind the name. By the Oglings years the account was Kewt's, and the silent brute on the monarchy was a flag the gang raided under.

An unarmed fighter with no magic who hardly ever said a word: to Son of Boar Child, the only thing he ever said was "Welcome to the Band of Thugs." Og was killing people in Rithwic and Eastham within the first weeks of retail in November 1999, and by February 2000 Usenet called him "the super powerful PK on Darktide". Shoushi emptied when word spread he was on the way.

His monarchy was the Oglings, also called the Band of Thugs; Flu, who levelled under the tag, used the second name in his 2003 history of the server. Og dies two or three times a day, his lawyer said in 2001, and if there is no risk of dying the game is no fun. He promised never to sell his character and kept the promise: on 30 September 2001 he deleted Og and left for Dark Age of Camelot. Turbine had already named a spell after him, Ogfoot, Quickness Other VII, and his template outlived him. The Smurfs merged into his crew, and that is how Dranven's people became the Band of Thugs.
