The Mercs (TM)

The first power on Darktide: Mikey, Osium, Shollos, Kalihan, Rupture, Shippy, Psycho, Balor. They lived in Arwic and laid waste to Eastham every evening in November 1999, duped gear in December, and fell apart through 2000 after Black Rose raided Arwic nonstop from Kara. A persistent claim in the comments says the original Mikey, also known as Qwik, was Mike Ybarra, later head of Xbox and president of Blizzard, who sold the character to Rak in early 2000. Unverified, but nobody has contradicted it.
