I can get melee d at level 32 [27 now] and then healing at 60. Or I can get healing now and melee d at 60.I am not sure which to get first. I am leaning toward melee d at the moment, although healing does make buffing a lot faster. My starting stats were 40, 40, 10, 40, 100, 100 and my skills were spec'd Life; trained War, Creature, Item, Mana C. What do you guys think? What skills did you mages choose? Any help would be appreciated. |

| you are a mage, don't waste your credits on melee defense, take healing, if you are gonna PvP a lot , take healing, try to get some treated healing kits and you can heal very easily, Remember that most bloods and Gen melee guys are WAY to high level for us to ever evade them, so you do waste your 10 credits, Since you started with only 10 coord, like most smart mages do , you will never ever be able to get your melee defense high enough, Ask magicloe what his attack skill is @ 52, now take splitpea to calculate how much XP it would cost to take you close to his attack skill, you will notice that it will be a waste of time, so think what will happen when you see level 90+ bloods or gens with healing you can heal yourself fast, without using mana, and like you said, you can buff faster, health to mana, heal heal, buff to mana, heal heal ... I still have to hear the first one that can prove to me that melee defense is usefull for mages against melee's ... so my advice is, go for healing greets, |

6. Here is what I was thinking. |
|
|
| This is why I was leaning toward melee d. I do realize that I would not have much chance of evading the high levels, but what about everyone else? I had assumed that the majority of pks I would run into were not that high level, and thus it would benefit me to have melee d. But being new to Darktide I may be assuming wrong. You guys have played here a lot longer and know a lot more about it than me. So if you say healing... well I could train that right now and have 2 credits to spare. I need to reconsider this.

| Basically we wanted you to convince that you'll mostly meet high level PK's and given you had the wrong assumption about that it is was good of you to ask So don't take Melee Defense to have a chance at evading PK's, most of them are too high level for a mage to get enough Melee Def to evade them. You'll enjoy healing a lot more and by the time you would be able to get melee Defense lower level melees won't dare to come near you anyway. Blakar |

| Heal is an uber skill. Some Melee Templates don't even include MeleeD. Convenient vs. mobs. The numbers make meleeD usless in even pvp. Example at lv 21 UA skill 220ish buffed lv 40 Axe skill 310 ish to get a 310 meleeD you'd have to be Uber Dagger type even at lv 40. As a mage you may evade lv 40's at lv 70 so getting MeleeD at 60 might be good. Mean while you have heal for all those levels. Quicker buffing, you can save mana on heals after mob hunts. |

| I would say healing all the way. U will soon forget to heal using life and your buffing time will go way down. If u take healing u will for sure want to buff it so u get the most our of it, this will add to your buffing time. Melee buffs+life buffs. etc. Healing will make u a more better mage, melee wont.. I'm new, but, just wanted to add my 2 cents. thx, Darkius |

| I agree with you Darkius. Also, I find healing is a good defence against drain attacks; the person draining you will run eventually out of mana if you just keep healing. Lyta. |
