US Troops Accused of New Civilian Killings
Meanwhile in Iraq, US troops are being accused of a new round of killings of Iraqi civilians. On Wednesday, the Iraqi Islamic Party, Iraq’s main Sunni group, said it had evidence US troops killed more than two dozen Iraqis in incidents last month. According to the group, the most deadly attack occurred in a house in Yusifiyah south of Baghdad – killing 13 people, including women and children.

What's the solution to this?

yeah, Haditha investigation is likely to yield 3 murder convictions. However, look at the # of troops over there, lets just say 100k are there. If a Platoon of 18 troops went haywire and did in fact do this, they still represent less than one-one hundreth of a percent of our total troops in Iraq. I know this does not justify ruthless killing, but that is what war is. The Geneva Conference holds strong verbiage against this and if guilty they will spend their lives in the brig. However, I still support the troops whom are doing their job, even if I don't support the reason they are there.

I agree up to a point. It's good percentages. I think. And it's looking like one sarge was responsible for two or more of the massacres. Maybe it's just a few bad apples.

I don't agree with the support your troops part. That's a cop out that lets this horrible situation to continue. When kids get to an age where they should be thinking we as a society need to apply positive reinforcement. Encourage the good choices and offer no coddling for the bad choices. Sure some kids are in economically bad areas. For them I'd recommend the peace corps. Or any of thousands of volunteer services that pay a stipend they can live on while making connections to move on up.

hehe, I often thought about "an A-Bomb and turn Mesopotamia into a Sheet of Glass" theory, but...when I realize that people are earning a living by..not necessarily protecting us, but from others (i.e. people dressing up as Iraqi Cops and taking innocents and executing them) I realize that one day this would have happened. Either by Saddam dying of natural causes and one of his sons taking over, or, by what has already occured (a somewhat multinational force infiltrating and over throwing). Either way secretarian violence would have had an uprising, however by not having a centralized pressence would have been near imposible to quell.

edit: by referencing one of Saddams son's taking over I meant that we, the USA, would have seen that as another opportunity to "free" Iraq.

I agree that it was pretty much inevitable. The world won't tolerate the turmoil in the Middle East forever. As times goes on and much deadlier weapons are made available, it only stands to become more threatening to the rest of the world.
