  Multiple Characters
by Damion Draco and others (3/17/00)

I was just wondering how eveyone feels about second characters and if we can pledge them into the source. Drake is 9th level right now and I am planning on getting him to 10 + very soon. I really like playing him and can see myself in that form just as much as I am in Damion. I would like to pledge Drake to Cyblade when I hit 10th level. Is this okay?

-Damion Draco

I originally asked the Council to take up this issue and now I withdraw the request. I think we should have only one primary character in the Source. On the other hand it is a big hassle to play a mid level character without a patron, especially for a mage getting constant requests in the mage tower for patrons. I have no problem with us creating some splinter monarchs. We have secondary causes like Gar's alchemist or a small PK gang.

-Alex (Beryl)

ooo, issue, im against it. but im a purist right wing wacko, so i dont know what merit my view holds. Ive even questioned whether mules are really "correct". Until turbine lets us buy castles and occupy them at least. I reall think secondary char should be on different worlds, and come up on their own

-Runac the wack, Paul

I think that this is a topic to be explored........ we got all second characters out of the source to try and clean up the census problem....... I think that if we want to get second characters back in the source then the council needs to work on it right away thru e-mail......... And most of all the census needs to be cleaned up.......... I am missing one follower as best I can tell by what khali has writen...... I have no idea who it is...... somebody tell me please..... and tell khali....... Last night it said 87 followers I think....... Khali should know who they are....... Not everybody is on this mail list, so ask your vassals etc........ let's get a clear count.... and the council can work on this.......... Almost everybody is playing 2 characters now and I'm sure many of you would like them both to be source members

Okay. What if we find that we like to play our second character more than our original? I started a mage because I already played a figher (before I knew what I was doing). I have found myself haveing more fun with my new melee guy. I would just hate to be left out of The Source. I don't know if I want to do this yet but, what if I removed Damion? I do like playing him but, I am curious to see how my melee guy does at a higher level. Then it would be disission time. I don't want to start on another server, my friends are in Harvestgain and I can barley keep up with everything there.

-Draco

I think that you would have to choose one chracter or the other to be in the Source officially. You could run your other character on Source outing by all means.I do not think there is any reason to start a character on another serverunless you want the challenge. Time is definitely not an abundant resource for me. I have no problem using equipment obtained from my higher level char with my lower level ones. This is also part of the fun!

-Alex

So Damion's patron should be should be penalized because I like to play different types of characters? I'm sorry guys, this makes no sense to me. The whole purpose of haveing vassels is to get exps and help each other. If someone is using a character and gaining exps (mules don't tend to get very many exps) wouldn't that be a benefit to the group??? What is the difference weather I play two characters or one? If I named him something else and didn't say anything, nobody would have a problem with Drake being a source member.I am just a little baffled. To me, it sounds like easy exps being thrown away.

-Draco

IT IS NOT TO DO WITH THE XP BEING THROWN AWAY, THAT DOES NOT MATTER, IT IS THE ISSUE OF HAVING MORE THAN ONE GUY, THE COUNCIL WILL BE DISCUSSING IT, SO HOLD ON TIGHT.

Hello all, I personally have no problems with people having more then one character in the Source. It seems to me that I, Thad Jakusz, am part of the Source no matter what Character I play. And it is not like the secondary characters are treated any different. When I meet a low level character and I find out he/she has a character in the Source, then that present character is as good as being in the Source as well. Also I want all my characters to be part of the Source, there is no other alliance I would ever join, so I either have to goof off and swear to Kubuterimon(alchemist), swear to someone in the Source, or deal with stupid (STUPID!!!!!) people trying to buy my allegiance, I HATE THAT!!!!!. It just seems unfair to me that if I make a new character I can't swear to someone in the Source, because my (Thad Jakusz's) loyalty is to the Source and to the Source alone...no matter who I play as. The cons as I see them don't seem that bad. It seems to me that if are playing more then one character in the Source it would make the census easier. The other con is from a role-playing aspect, but even this is minor. Just role play each character differently or don't worry about it. So what are the real reasons people don't want people to have more then one character in the Source?

-Thad (Garurumon)

The problem was with numbers before Damion Draco was a member of the group.... we had mules and all sorts of non used characters all thru our ranks... we took them all out to clean out our ranks and to get to know each other better.... So this is a left over side effect of the purge we did to get organized..... we are much more organized now, we just havn't discused this topic lately...... How far is Drake for lvl 10 do we have enough time to settle this before he gets there?

-Keith (Miko K-sun)

My 3 cents on the topic (inflation hits all over) is that primary characters can mean more than 1 character per player, but that you are actively playing and adventuring with. Secondary Characters are test cases... might get played, might be dumped... and mules are never going to be much more than a porter. I think any Primary character should be allowed although some will prefer to keep a non-Source one anyway. This should be made clear with a directive from the council but I believe that our Monarch and his Bride have set a good example of how to play more than one primary character. Isn't the real issue that we don't want to artificially bloat our ranks with useless mule characters to make ourselves look better? Not to penalise people that want to experience different styles of play.

-Brin Lokison

My feelings are that multiple characters played by one person are fine. As long as the new character meets the requirements just like the previous person did. Many of us have restarted characters (My gosh, I've gone through Mhon-Ti, Morganna, Alexandrix, Holgryn, and finally settled on Hakeem. But now I play Niko K-Sun almost equally as much) and usually when you restart you play both of them for a while. I do not think that Mules that are used for the purpose of storing items should be sworn to anyone. I can see however, having an alchemist, or chef mule in the Source for those types of items, should they become necessary at any point. (i.e., Gar's alchemist for Atlan weapons, etc) To me it's like having different characters you play in a tabletop role playing game. Like D&D or what have you. Some sessions you want to bash heads, and others you want to play a mage, or cleric. Does this mean they can't be friends? Also, as far as making someone go to a different server to play, I can see some reasoning to this, but I doubt there are any groups that are as good as the Source, and should I play Niko permanantly, I'll be damned if I'd sign with anyone else.

-Monty / Hakeem ibn Holgryn ibn Mhon Ti / Niko K-Sun

My opinion is, if you want to play the other guy more, have your patron dismiss your old character and pledge the new one in.'Nuff said.

-Rojon

a simple thing i started trying with my mules (yes i even get freaking alligiance requests for a freaking lvl 1 mule!) is to start a fellowship called - I Do Not Want A Monarch or something like that. since i have started doing it i have stopped having to have all the conversations from people trolling for vassals. it is excessive to do everytime i mule (so i don't always do it) but it may help secondary characters at least when they are hunting alone...
