Should We Have a Monarch Other Than Druss?
(2/8/00)

In his note "He who must not be named", Druss discussed the difficulties of playing a character who is so known to the public and who must tolerate random messaging in game. He stated a desire to return to a more pure playing atmosphere (that most of the rest of us enjoy) by playing an anonymous character. This doesn't mean that Druss is no longer the leader of The Source, but he did include this paragraph at the end of the note

And last but not least, I think it might be nice to have a real monarch lead the source, and will pledge Druss to anyone who can exceed him in level, is part of The Source, and The Source say is OK. to be monarch. Perhaps Mizu, Miko, Simone, Gar, etc etc etc can take turns being Monarch?

Some responses...

-Rojon

I agree, though I caution everyone that not all Source members may feel that way. It would be a politically sensitive issue Druss would have to explain the reasons for IN DETAIL, as many Source members have joined solely because Druss was Monarch.

-Hakeem

Here are my feelings on the issue.

* Jamie(Druss) has every right to do whatever he needs to to be happy in the game. If he's getting bombarded by random magic scrubs.. er.. fans, because he's the King of Fatness, fine. Let him make a new character, and play the new character instead of Druss.

* Miko, Mizu, Garurumon, Mutt, Caessa, the list goes on... would make fine monarchs, however...

* I didn't join the source for kewl l00t, or for popularity, or even to give my friend Jamie XP. I joined because I wanted to be a part of a tight-knit community, with an awesome figurehead, Druss.

* Why not keep Druss as our leader? Sure, he may not play as Druss ever again. Or perhaps he'll break him out like a favorite magic deck (Secret Force?) from time to time to go on adventures. But there's nothing saying he should _have_ to do this. If he wants to fine, if not, well that's fine too.

* The other alternative of course, is that when one of the new servers starts up, join it, choose totally new names, even Druss, and start afresh with just this small group of core members we have. Have I had fun, and worked hard with Hakeem? Heck yeah. Would I be upset if I left Harvestgain, and went to another server? Maybe a little, but as long as I'm _playing_ then I really don't care if I'm a weak level 2 character, or a mighty level 22 character, as long as I'm in the game, and playing.

* The other, OTHER alternative, is to join the new PK server when/if it starts, and create the Source there, and have fun roleplaying the leaders of Yanshi, and protectors of all oppressed, etc. Just a few thoughts. I'll go with whatever everyone else decides.

I don't think Druss should turn over the crown, but if he really wants to I think that we need a Queen! Give the crown to Caessa II! She would be an excellent Queen.

well i agree with all of hakeems comments, i like the idea o going to a new pk server, but if we stay here, i wish druss to be my monarch, when i joined, i wanted Jamie to be my monarch, now its druss, people out there know of reeve druss, and if i walk into a town with

Monarch: Reeve Mizu-no

one week and

Monarch: Reeve Miko K-Sun

it will look funny, i want druss to remain the monarch of the source, perhaps we should go on one last quest to get him a suit of gold platemail armour, any AL. this could be his "Dress Armour", which he would wear at Formal Occasions and when at conducting a trial for transgressors, look i like playing ac, but i like roleplaying ac more, and i feel that this is the most rp way to go.

comments feedback??
keep em to yourself!

lol, only joking

oh and rojon, thanks for the glowing report of my dires cruise vacation.

Hello all, I have been reading the emails and thinking, and I think the Source is fine how it is. I haven't heard any complaints that Druss is hardly on any more...and Jamie still is so it doesn't matter much to me. Also I have read the Gemmel books and have learned more about what the Source is and I think we don't need an active monarch as much as we need active leaders. Why fix what really isn't broken? I like being a part of the Source because of the people that make it up, no matter what character they play as, or who is the monarch. I like playing on Harvestgain. I like writing non-work email at work :-)

Gar

- Miko K-sun

I am fine with Druss as a Monarch.... I like that much... I think that if people don't mind having a figure head as a monarch then so be it..... Miko K-sun as monarch looks way stupid anyway and I would have to be dimissed by the lovely Simone and well I like being under her....... :)

Hey All,

Knowing that this was probably coming at some point, I have given this much thought. We all signed on to be a part of this group and, in part, to have Druss be our Monarch. We have established our tight-knit family around Druss being Monarch and that is how people recognize us. I do not think that Druss has to be an active day-to-day character for him to remain our Monarch. The Source family members will ALWAYS know how to get in touch with Druss if we have the need to do so. All this would mean is that the "outside Dereth world" won't know how to get in touch with him and pester him.

That's my vote! But will go along with the majority.

I think your right on point Monty, Whatever makes Druss happy is the way we should go. Honestly, I really didn't know what the 'Source' was when I joined. Imoen took a chance on me and helped me out when I was in serious need. She gave me the webpage addy and I took a look and I was impressed. That a group of people could be so active and tight with each other. I knew that I had been the luckiest person in the game when I took that faithful purple tunnel ride and found Imoen sitting at the Lifestone taking a rest. I had just been wandering about the game doing this and that.. with no real direction. Now I felt that Hiya Aokawa had a purpose in the game, he was becoming a PC instead of just some guy. When I met Druss it wasn't much of a horra or anything we said a few words he dropped like 10K on me..and said have a nice day..and went off to kill things in the DIRES. What a guy!!

Jamie, I really think that you should stay as Monarch. People actually do look up to you as a kind of father figure :) Aww ain't that sweet huh? ;) We are forming this council for a reason so we can take all the pressure off of you. Delegation of Responsiblity is a great thing! If you want to play 'Legend' activily then have funfun! Play Druss every now and again when you get the 'Urge' to Kick some Serious Tail!

The idea about the new server would be fun, I mean think about all of us.. starting over at Level 1 ;) Fear us..we are 'The Source!' hehe..like a bunch of 10yr olds forming a gang! Real scary.. and we would have to build up again.. I think that would bond many of the newer and more active memebers along with the Older memebers even closer. Making an even tighter knit group of people.

Just my thoughts..

Hiya Aokawa, Resident Almost Wise Guy.

I think Druss should remain monarch. I know I haven't been with the group long, but anyone familiar with The Source recognizes them through Reeve Druss. I am fine with Druss being a simple figure head for The Source. He is a great character and this is a good way to keep his memory alive.
