  Atlan Weapons FAQ
by Hakeem (3/2/00)

I also found this on a website message board. FAQ on Atlan weapons and motes:

1) Obtaining the Motes

TRUE: 16 are required
TRUE: Any golem drops them
FALSE: There is a 32 mote Super Ingot
TRUE : Harder Golems give out more motes with the exception of Magmas

2) Combining the Motes

FALSE: An alchemist of high skill is required to combine the Pyreal Bars into an Ingot. (Anyone can combine the bars into ingots)
TRUE: An alchemist of high skill is required to combine the Pyreal Bars into a High Quality Pyreal Ingot (We have seen success at as low as 190 skill)
TRUE: There is a chance of failure at any skill level up to at least 280, the highest we've tried (about 5% failure rate)
TRUE: On success, a High Quality Pyreal Ingot is created. On failure, a Pyreal Ingot is created.
TRUE: Using an alchemist to combine the Motes into Slivers, Nuggets and Bars has no bearing on the quality, only the combination of the Bars into an Ingot

FALSE: The pyreal bars can be destroyed if you fail. The bars are never destroyed, just a lower quality ingot is crafted.
FALSE: There is any Ingot quality higher than High Quality.

3) Stamping the Ingot

FALSE: The warrior must personally perform this step (BUG, the Ingot is supposed to be No-Drop)
TRUE: The warrior's skill has bearing on the stamping process. It works like a trade skill, with a random chance of success or failure based on your weapon skill.
TRUE: When the High Quality Ingot is stamped with the Glyph, it becomes a Superb OR Peerless Stamped Ingot, depending on weapon skill, thus arises a commonly held myth that a Superb Ingot exists, do not confuse this with unstamped ingot quality) When a normal Ingot is stamped it becomes a Stamped Ingot or a Superb Stamped Ingot.

4) Handing the Stamped Ingot to the Golem

TRUE: The warrior must personally perform this step (the resulting weapon is SoLL-style no-drop)
TRUE: The resulting weapon never has magic - the stones are required to make it magical.
TRUE: Peerless Atlan Claw has 2-8 base, Peerless Atlan Axe is 10-20, Peerless Atlan Sword is 5-18, peerless Atlan Spear is 4-14. Peerless dagger is 2-8.
TRUE: The warrior's skill has any bearing on the resulting weapon. Those with weapon skill below 200 routinely get superb from High Quality Ingots.
TRUE: It's the warrior's current buffed skill, not their base skill.

UNKNOWN: Whether there is any weapon quality higher than Peerless. (Chances are the answer is no. Any time an item is used on another item, it seems there are only two possibilities: Sucess or failure. Success stamping a normal ingot and failure stamping a high quality ingot appear to give the same weapon: Superb)

5) Applying the Stones

TRUE: There are 4 Minor Stones, 4 Major Stones, and a Shadow Stone
TRUE: All of the Minor stones are camped, and spawn only once per hour (the spawn rate is going to be tweaked in the next patch)
TRUE: The Major Stones are guarded by monsters, so they aren't really camped, but they have the same spawn problem.
TRUE: The Minor Stones apply magic only, the Major Stones apply magic and elemental damage
TRUE: The magic is of both positive and negative nature (for example, the Greater Fire Stone applies fire damage and cold vulnerability)
TRUE: A Tool is required to change the stones. The Tool is itself another quest.
TRUE: The Shadow Stone is only obtained by following a quest granted to high level monarchs by a Sentinel on a random basis.

UNKNOWN: The exact spell combinations for each Major and Minor Stone. Major: Elemental effect, Elemental Prot4, Opposite elemental Vuln4, BD4, HS4 Minor: 1 Stat buff3, 1 stat debuff3, 1 wpn buff2, 1 wpn debuff2 an example is the Minor smoldering stone, BD2, Str3, Slowness3, Leadpn2
TRUE: The stones may break on inserting them into the weapon. The Tool may break when removing a stone.
TRUE/UNKNOWN: The Stones break after approximately 7 insertions (low=1, high=?)
