$2000 and You Can be l33t Too
4/18/00 - The player of Ringo and Chaucer, both renowned Random PKs, is offering his account for $2000 on Ebay. Now if everyone selling a high level Darktide character would have the courtesy to join the Blood Monarchy prior to each sale, it would greatly smooth the transition for each new owner.

Are Ebay sales a good way for players to get a return on thier playing time, or are Ebay sales ruining online roleplaying games? Would you support a ban on Ebay sales like Everquest's, or are things fine the way they are now? Be sure to vote in GZR's new poll.

Asheron's Call: The Movie
4/16/00 - It looks like hanging out in the Gromnie Breath Tavern finally paid off. Someone dropped the URL for the first funny AC Movie that wasn't made by the folks at Vitae Rising. GZR gives it two thumbs up.

Amazing Article over at Lum's
4/16/00 - Delusion, a poster for Lum the Mad, wrote an intelligent and very well thought out article about online roleplaying game design. It's pretty darn long, but if you're interested in design concepts for online roleplaying games it's definately worth a look.

PKs in Lop's Monarchy?
4/15/00 - Reportedly, bad elements from within the monarchy of Lop are implicated in a series of mule killings and murders in the Stonehold area. The leader of this rogue faction has been identified by several witnesses as being a mage called Mistress of Desires.

Colonel Coward, the Leader of Stonehold, has declared that all members of Mistress of Desire's criminal group be killed on sight. Defenders of Stonehold have also been instructed by the Colonel that non-criminal and innocent Lops should be politely asked to leave the city environs until the few undesireables have been firmly dealt with.

Two Tales of Two Cities
4/15/00 - As part of our tradition of balanced reporting here at General Zang's Reports, we're happy to present two new tales from Darktide: Serpico of the Anti-PK guild known as the Professionals shows his journal of the Loch-Shadow War at Stonehold, and Bin Akbar (GZR's Guest Columnist of Evil) retells a story from Holtburg in the early days of Darktide.

The Mercs Return From Shadowbane!
4/14/00 - Unlike the sort of lies and made-up interviews you're likely to see at evil sites, General Zang's Reports strives to bring you the most accurate and unbiased Darktide news available today. GZR is proud to present this exclusive interview with an anonymous highly-placed Merc.

[For those of you who are new to Darktide, The Mercs were a band of evil murderers who abused thier positions as Beta testers on Asheron's Call to compile a secret list of exploits and cheats that they then used in an attempt to "own the server". They then all left to enter the Shadowbane beta.]

Zang: So, you're all really returning to Darktide?

Merc: Yes, we've all become really bored with Shadowbane. After so many weeks in beta testing over there, it's just not a challenge anymore.

Zang: How is Shadowbane? And are all of you Mercs beat testers over there?

Merc: Well, I can't really give you too many details because of our non-disclosure agreement, but the faction system is really neat. We're not ALL beta testers, there's actually one of us who's an employee of Wolfpack in the Qwalety Assuranze section.

Zang: Any truth to the rumors that you all left Shadowbane due to increased competition from other clans, and that you wanted to leave while you were ahead?

Merc: No, absolutely not! That's pure bullshit! We OWNED Shadowbane! Nobody chased us off, we just got bored with Shadowbane and decided to play AC again.

Zang: Really? Any truth to the rumors that you're still actually playing in the Shadowbane beta under assumed names, and that it wasn't really boredom that caused you to leave Shadowbane?

Merc: That's a lie! And it also doesn't make any sense at all. I mean if we left Shadowbane because we were bored, why the hell would we still be playing there? Try making some sense for a change.

Zang: Oh, sorry, my mistake.

What is Good in Life?
4/11/00 - Amid all the talk of politics, laws, and treaties, its good to remember the simple things that make being a Peacekeeper so rewarding......like bringing swift punishment to murdering scum, and enforcing Justice on Darktide.

I was exploring a series of box canyons on the coast of the Dires when the call came through.

"PK at Ice Golem Hill.", Peacekeeper Chi-maria reported, "Choppydaliver just killed me and another Stoneholder."

A Peacekeeper and another innocent casually murdered? In our own lands? I vowed that this would not go unpunished.

"On my way", I mindspoke to Chi-maria,"meet me at the north foot of the hill." I pulled out my magic orb and recalled back to Stonehold, buffed my bow and flaming katar of death, and a short run later I met Chi-maria at the foot of Ice Golem Hill.

Chi-maria filled me in on the suspect's weaponry and armor, and raised an eyebrow as she saw me pull out the bow and knock an arrow. She knew my preference for close-in combat.

We charged the hill, and I engaged the suspect with bow fire. The electrical arrows made a satisfying "ka-chunk" sound as they pierced his armor. The suspect began to flee, and the chase began. Every so often, I'd stop running long enough to send another arrow after his fleeing form.

Eventually, the fleeing murder suspect made the decision that cost him his life. He decided to use his axe to engage the "archer" who was chasing him. He turned and charged me, his axe cracking with electricity.

Dodging his blows, I dropped the bow and pulled out the already buffed flaming katar of death. I felt Chi-maria's life magic healing my wounds even as they appeared, and I quickly pronounced sentence and executed the murderer for his crimes.

Another suspect apprehended, tried, and executed for his crimes. All in a day's work for the Peacekeepers....proudly enforcing Justice on Darktide.

Treaty at Stonehold for Forces of Good
4/10/00 - The shiny jackboots echoed on the cobblestoned streets of Stonehold, as Druez Traceless and the minions of his puppet Queen marched into town.

From the crowd, a small voice asked a question that echoed the sentiments of many: "Mommy", the little girl asked, "aren't those the bad people who killed Daddy?"

"Shhh", the child's mother comforted, "It'll be ok, they're not PKs anymore; there's a treaty."

It wasn't easy for me stand by and watch the FSS bandits who'd attacked our town and murdered innocents be allowed to goosestep in unopposed. It was even harder for and my fellow Peacekeepers to hold back the angry crowd.

A sobbing woman tried to force her way past the cordon of Peacekeepers, she held up a small picture. "You don't understand," she sobbed, struggling to reach the minions of evil," they killed my brother! All he did was carry things, and look at things in the shop! They murdered him, and he was only a...*sniff*…mule."

"Yes Ma'am", said one of the Peacekeepers, confiscating her weapon, "but there's a treaty now. No more Antis fighting Antis, we're uniting the forces of Good."

One of my senior officers had overheard the conversation, and mindspoke to me: "Forces of Good?? Druez Traceless??"

I mindspoke back: "I'm as disgusted by the treaty as you are, but we have to support Colonel Coward in ruling Stonehold along firm Anti-PK lines, and unifying the Anti-PK groups. Druez managed to convince enough gullible people that he was also Anti-PK, so he's included. Don't antagonize him, and don't attack unless you're attacked."

Colonel Coward stood forth upon the roof of the bowyer shop and addressed the crowd. He spoke about the need for a unified front, and for the forces of Good to put aside their differences to concentrate on fighting the greater evils in the land. It was a good speech, and afterwards the crowds dispersed peacefully, hoping against hope that somehow the treaty would turn out for the best.

Commitment to Balanced Reporting
4/9/00 - Despite critism about "lack of objectivity" from murderous fanatics, General Zang's Reports remains commited to reporting in a fair and impartial manner on the news and events on Darktide. In order to counter perceptions of Anti-PK bias in our news stories, we've added Bin Akbar as Guest Columnist of Evil to the GZR staff (see the unhappy face link in the left column).

Unlike some sites which crowd thier staff together on one page in filth and squalor, Bin Akbar will have his own GZR page. Hopefully this will put to rest any rumors of bias as we continue reporting on the hated PK scum and the brave forces of Good.

Incident At Stonehold: PKs driven off.
4/8/00 - Basically, the so-called "Antis" who stood around chatting with Loch and Shollos and Company are the "sorta-kinda-Antis" who tend to dwell in Anti-PK towns getting a free ride on the backs of the REAL Anti-PKs who actually keep each town safe.

There was some confusion as the REAL Anti-PKs sorted out WHY THE HELL LOCH WAS STANDING AROUND IN STONEHOLD AND NOT BEING ATTACKED.

Colonel Coward and his people did an excellent job of taking the initiative and letting the evil PK scum know that they weren't welcome. Colonel Coward's leadership in defending Stonehold is legendary.

After the initial confusion, Frost Gunner (my 2nd-in-Command) courageously led the Peacekeepers who were there in multiple wave attacks against the hated PK enemy who were befouling our streets with thier murderous stench.

Red Monika made several PKs (who out-leveled her by 20+ levels) both recall away, and run off to heal in the woods.

I myself arrived in Stonehold a little after 1am Pacific, and was briefed by the Peacekeepers still holding the town. I'm proud of the courage and determination shown by every Peacekeeper in driving the PK scum away from Stonehold.

Now If only every resident who calls themselves "Anti" would display the same level of commitment as the Peacekeepers and Colonel Coward's people, then we could drive the foul PKs who plague our land of Darktide into the sea.

Darktide News Network
4/7/00 - The DNN is under new management and can be found here.

If Every Darktider Donated a Dollar...
4/7/00 - Another high-level PK has gone on the Ebay auction block. Let's all pitch in and buy this one for Aztek/Dark Tide and the VFW.

News From Plateau: Imposter!
4/7/00 - Alkemius, a resident of the Plateau and a member of the Downy monarchy reports that the vicious attacks on innocent Plateauers by the evil Loch and his minions are continuing. Reportedly, Downy, Laterna Shalanx, and Nobile of Black Rose have all gathered forces to fight the invading Loch scum.

Alkemius also sent in this disturbing information:

There is also a person going by the name Noble Black Rose. This is not the true monarch of the Black Rose. There are two members in the Black Rose that go by the name Black Rose Noble and Nobile of Black Rose. The later being the monarch of the Black Rose. The imposter is a Random Player Killer and made some futile attacks into plateau top, that all resulted in his immediate death.

Closer to home, there are unconfirmed reports that several Stonehold guilds are preparing expeditionary forces to travel to Plateau to help defend our peacefull nieghbors against PKs.

The Man Who Would Be King
4/6/00 - Druez Traceless, former hero of the Azilite War and current murderous bandit, announced that he intended to conquer and rule Stonehold:

As to the conditions for FSS to return to SH. You can take those and shove them up your ass. There is only one condintion that will stop fss from attacking SH. Surrender.

Let me change that, boot zang and crew from the town. Col coward, must pledge to our queen, or leave town.

You meet these requirements and FSS will leave you alone, and rule the town as it is destined to be.

Lord of Dereth's Serpents
Family of Silver Serpents

I've seen threats like this before from power-crazed fanatics who desired to sieze control of Stonehold through force of arms. Here's what they said then:

For now, for you people who used to live in Stonehold, you have three choices:

1) Continue to die.
2) Leave.
3) Join my alliance.

Those are the only options I am offering at this time.

Alliance of Darkness
(January 26, 2000)

Here's what I have to say about Druez, the latest wanna-be conquerer:

Have you sworn Allegiance to, or have you directly allied yourself with Druez/Danciy ?

If YES, then you've declared war.

Loch Makes War on the Plateau
4/5/00 - The remnant forces of the infamous Mercs, led by the evil and hated Loch, have been raiding the once peacefull town of Plateau for several days. Garbled reports from the isolated town indicate that the Loch forces used a low-level spy into tricking a high-ranking and respected Plateauer into summoning a portal, which the invaders then scurried through. Alkemius, a resident of Plateau, sent us this screenshot that was taken shortly before his death.

Exclusive Interview With Vig Neo
4/4/00 - Not to be outdone on news reporting by mere propaganda sites, General Zang's Reports is proud to bring you this exclusive interview with Vig Neo of Circus of Horrors, conducted entirely by e-mail.

Zang: Why the hell do you play UO? I can never understand what appeal that little cartoony game actually has for anyone. It's like Super Mario Brothers online.....an amusing concept, but worth $10 a month? When AC is readily available? *shrug* Just asking.

Vig: LoL, why do I play UO....good question, considering I was under the impression that I had stopped playing it for EQ, and then AC, years ago. I don't play UO, I just did the Richard Garriott thing because anyone who has ever played it in the past undoubtedly hates his stupid ass. Ever notice how UO gets worse and worse and worse with every patch? My theory is that it's a highly-funded government experiment to figure out exactly how much bullshit the citizens will take before they finally do something about it. If I'm interpreting the statistics in the same way as "Big Brother", then at the moment American bullshit tolerance levels are a little over "Imprint The Mark of The Beast on All Their Foreheads," but not quite to the coveted "Rape The Women and Sell The Children to China" level. Take note that Circus of Horrors wasn't possible until UO slowly worked national bullshit tolerance levels past "Surrender All Concepts of Decency and Sanity," so I guess I owe OSI one. Stop badmouthing my saviors before I smack you!

At this point, I had to terminate the interview, as the whole "smack you" comment reminded me of what happened to the last guy involved in an interview with Vig.

Another Victory on the Leafcull Front
4/3/00 - Colin of Darktide, one of the many proud Zone Troopers of our Darktide Invasion Army, sent us this screenshot of another Leafie corpse. Good work Colin, and be sure to contact Bin Akbar so he can add you to the Darktide VFW.

Will the Ebay Madness Never End?
4/1/00 - It's hard enough on Darktide keeping track of where each guild stands, without this latest wrinkle from Ebay sales. It turns out that DVN-The-Feared was bought by someone in Blood, carrying on the proud Blood tradition of Ebay gimpdom.

This wouldn't exactly be news except that when The Feared helped Black Rose raid the Bloods in Kara yesterday, DVN-The-Feared was there fighting for the Bloods and against The Feared.

How irritating it must be to have someone with your clan tag in thier name fighting your clan.

Here's another character on the Ebay auction block. I wonder which lucky Blood gets him?
