  Frost Gunner Missing in Desert!
5/14/00 - Frost Gunner, Second-in-Command of the Anti-PK group known as the Peacekeepers, failed to return after an expedition into the desert in search of the elusive Cardinal Siddartha. Only a few scraps of a faded journal and this story were found. Hopes remain high that Frost will reappear.

Forces of Light Avenge PK Raid!
5/9/00 - It was a quiet peacefull town, inhabited by decent Anti-PKs. But that peace was shattered in an instant as several innocent members of the House of Sagacious were cut down mercilessly in an early morning PK raid. Druez Traceless had struck again, leaving yet more destruction and death in his wake.

"It was horrible", sobbed a terrified witness,"He just ran in and killed three people randomly, and then ran off. Someone's got to put an end to this madness!"

Others agreed that something had to be done, and soon an expeditionary force was formed. Famous names such as Hog-The-Feared, Mel Anoma, Nemisis, Crexus, and Rageous were among the twenty warriors of the Forces of Light. They were met by Peacekeepers General Zang and Sai-Ban.

"Black Rose has a force already clearing the FSS from town", General Zang informed the strike team,"I portaled them up moments ago."

A new portal was formed, and the combined CeD/HoS/Peacekeeper Anti-PK strike team swept thru the portal and into Stonehold, killing any FSS they found. The evil Serpent Queen's dreams of world conquest died in the blood-soaked mud of Stonehold, and another town had been liberated by the Forces of Light.

Darktide, Azile, and Atriarch
5/7/00 - When I stumbled across Asheron's Call, I was pretty much hooked right away. The Beta test had already begun, and there were screenshots and tons of posts by beta testers on the message boards to read. As soon as Computer Games Magazine game out with the CD for the open Beta, I was there. When the open Beta ended, I preordered the game, and I've been playing happily ever since.

Now, the same thing has happened to me again. I stumbled across a game called Atriarch. Stop right now and go look at everything on their website. Basically, everything they're planning is simply amazing. Like a globe over 1,100 times the size of Dereth. The ability to raise armies of NPC troops, build cities where ever you want them, permanent death, and no ability to log out at all (Characters stay in the world even when you're offline), all players on a single world, and there is NO PvP switch. When this game goes into Beta six months or a year from now, I plan on being there.

Imagine the whole Azilite War up in Stonehold, but under Atriarch rules. Permanent death would have meant 85% of the local defenders would have been gone after AoD's first sneak attack. Unless of course, the locals had had the foresight to build city walls and hire an NPC army to patrol the perimeter.

Then the evil Azilites would've needed siege engines, or maybe Unarra pilots dropping firebombs from the backs of trained flying creatures, to cover a frontal assault by Tyrusin warriors. Or perhaps a few crafty locals would've simply tried to assassinate the enemy leader when her player was offline in order to throw the invaders' NPC troops into disarray and thereby save the day for Good.

I can't wait until the Atriarch Beta starts.

The Experts Agree: Turbine is Awesome
5/5/00 - Drop by Lum's site, or visit Azile, or even go listen to Nighthawk and you'll hear the same thing. Turbine is awesome. It is amazing. Every single monthly update they do is better than the last. When people talk about game imbalances, or suggested improvements…BOOM…there's the next update, with some of the changes implemented.

Sometimes they make mistakes, and when this happens they immediately say "We made a mistake. We're sorry. Here's what it was, and here's our fix for it." The level of true professionalism and just plain good customer service from Turbine is just amazing, especially when you consider the incredibly bad examples from UO and Everquest.

I say that once they implement player housing, we immediately build a shrine to Chris L'Etoile and worship him as a pagan god.

A Soul Departs the World
5/3/00 - The smell of incense from the room's brazier was almost overpowering, as the sage consulted the tea leaves and threw the sticks one more time.

"He's gone.", the sage said simply,"His soul has left this world, and another has entered his body."

I nodded sadly. It had been prophesied more than a week before that the Leader would be possessed by a demon, but I'd hoped that the soothsayers might somehow be mistaken.

I opened the door and went out into the main room, where many of the Peacekeepers hunched over battle maps of the Stonehold area. There was a hushed expectant silence as I came from the old man's meditation room.

"The possession is complete", I announced,"The Colonel Coward we knew is gone from this world."

A Gift From Cardinal Siddartha
5/1/00 - The Cardinal has mindspoken with me only twice. Once to inform me that my name burned brightly in the book, and once to urge a peacefull solution to the whole Lop/CC/MoD incident.

So, I was a little surprised when his assistants Phaenna and Father Requiem came to Stonehold to bring me this gift...

...an inscription carved into a pyreal mote.
