Ok, Jamie is right about me but doesn't
know it.
I just don't get it.
PK, that is.
I read a story this morning about a
PK guy who runs into Arwic and attacks the nearest PK, apparently
because he's board. Guy A doesn't say a word to Guy B, just kills
him without warning but doesn't loot and tells Guy B this.
Guy B calls back later and invites Guy
A to a "fair" fight. Guy A accepts and they meet on
a beach somewhere.
Guy C, Guy B's high level monarch, shows
up and joins in. Guy A doesn't run away just tries to beat them
both. Guy C whips out a wand and starts shooting and eventually
Guy A dies.
Then he posts on CoD whining about "wand
monkeying" and Guy B not "keeping his word" about
a "fair fight".
I think "you attacked someone unprovoked
you deserved what you got".
Jamie posts "Guy A doesn't understand
what it means to be pk and Guys B and C deserve 40% vit from every
PK on HG".
So I guess I don't understand what it
means.
From what I've seen, there's no honor
in being a PK. To me, it seems if you attack someone unprovoked
and without warning you deserve whatever badness will happen to
you. Yes, I understand going PK means you are now a target for
everyone. But without honor, there's no appeal to this game for
me.
I don't mean this to be a rant, or a
slam against PK's or anything.
I just want to understand.
This type of stuff turns me off to PK
more than ever. I see people talk about the idea of conquering
DarkTide and it just turns me off. Why would anyone want to force
people to join your group? Its like that Star Trek alternate universe
episode. Would I really want to belong to an "Imperial"
Source? No, I sure would not, but that's just my opinon and doesn't
make anyone else's wrong or bad.
I really would just like to understand
that PK way of thinking, I guess.
'Nuff said.

| If you are a PK, anywhere, then you are fair game. You get to be
killed at any time, at anywhere, by anyone.
Think of it thisway.
If you are PK, you are a Banderling.
You have accepted and made the choice that you are a MONSTER. That
you can be hunted and killed by Player Characters.
Imagine you are a banderling / pk
You are sitting on top of a hill, you and your buddies, around
a fire, two chests with nothing but crap in them.
The Source attacks, clears the hill, takes your stuff out of the
chests, and loots your body.
Does a banderling immediatly msg you and say "Wtf?!?!"
As a PK, you have to understand that this is a possibilty for this
to happen to you.
If you DO NOT LIKE this possibility, then you may
A. Not become a PK on HG
B. Not play on DT.
You do not get to be red, and then complain when someone kills
you. You have signed a contract with Baelzeron, and now you want
to whine about the conditions.
Now here's the kicker.
If someone says "Fair Fight" then you assume that they
want to duel.
It is as if the Banderling Captain said "Just you and me punk."
So Druss accepts Banderling Captains challenge of just him and
I fighting.
We meet at the top of the hill. I have honorably told all of the
source, this is a duel, just me and him. No one is to interfere.
So I am fighting the Banderling Captain. ANd lo and behold 20 Banderlings
show up and kick my ass.
I didn't sign that contract.
I did not agree to fight the banderling captain and 20 vassals.
That is not honorable for him to go back on his word.
Nor is it Honorable to say "peace" and then attack someone.
Just because you have now become a target/red dot does not mean
that you can now be a dishonorable, lying, cheating wand monkeying
scumbag.
Just because you are a target, and a red dot, doesn't mean its
o.k. for you to steal from other people, lie, message them and call
them horrible names. Thats not part of the deal.
Hope that clears things up or you.

One last thing.
I think it was Phil and Chris talking about how "if there is
not honor, then what is the point" or if there is no sort of
"Capture the flag" then what is the point.
This is the hardest thing to understand.
When I started on DT, I wanted it to be everyone gets along, but you
got to kill people like Mad Martigan. I wanted it to be "There
are consequences for evil actions"
This is not the way it is.
You do not have a normal server, where everyone gets along and you
only kill the stupid punks.
That would be the perfect world. Sadly, this is not what DT is about.
You have to eventually accept that DT really is Quake tide.
Have you ever played Quake? Or Team Fortress: Arena? or any of those
games where the goal is PURELY to kill the other guy as many times
as possibly and get the most frags?
Thats how some people see DT.
In Quake, there are power ups. Invulnerability. Better weapons. More
speed. Better Ammo. Whatever.
When you play on DT, you start off as a standard low level guy, much
like in Quake. IF you want, you can go to town and kill people, with
your level one guy.
If people get mad at you for this, then they should not be on DT.
Its very simple.
If you are level one, you do not stand around in town unless you are
just begging to be killed.
Thats all there is too it.
If you hang around town, and get upset when someone kills you, then
you really don't get it.
Town is like the arena. That IS where people go to fight.
If you want to "Upgrade" your little quake guy, then you
get to go level. Get better weapons. Better ammo. Better armor. Better
skills.
Then you get to go to town and kill level one random PK's looking
to just hang out in town. You get to be Boss of yanshi until a level
15 or 40 shows up. Now you are no longer the boss. Now you are dead.
And you laugh about it, run back into town and see if he has looted
you. And if he has, then that is what you get for standing around
in town.
If you are an RPK, then you sign on to darktide just to kill people.
Forever. That is what you do. You upgrade your weapons and armor and
skills, and you just play Quake, only its on DT. Believe it or not,
there is nothing wrong with this.
If you are part of the source, then you try to stop people from doing
this.
Partly because it is the "right" thing to do, but mostly
because that is the side we have chosen.
If someone is standing in town, and needs money for equipement, I
might give them 1000p and say "Yanshi is guarded by me tonight.
Go level and get ttreasure and come back and sell. If I am here, Yanshi
is safe."
It gets pretty damn boring doing this unless someone attacks the town.
:-)
Now, I like to test my skills against other people. I like to see
how the TL template stacks up.
How do I do this if I am not an RPK?
Its simple.
I attack on sight anyone pledged to
Red Devil
Blood
Jubei
Shollos
and a host of others.
If I examine someone, and they are under one of these monarchs, I
kill them as many times as I can.
And when they message me and say "WTF!!!"
I laugh and I say "Your monarch is a PK"
and they invariable go "he is?"
Yup, he is. And if you don't want to get attacked by everyone, you
will break with him and stop giving him xp.
Becasue all Anti's do this.
They all attack red devils and jubies and Shollos etc.
We're all sort of random pk, only Anti's choose who they attack. Only
people pretty much branded as "evil."
Its not about signing on and forming grand alliances, and controlling
towns and keeping little people safe and playing a true role playing
game where you can attack other players.
See, that would be ideal.
But thats not possible on DT.
When you play on DT, you just have to think like this
"We're all little quake bots, running around."
We're all playing Quake.
Just keep repeating that to yourself.
In order to fully understand DT, you really need to sign on, as an
evil character.
And kill as many people as you can in town, until peopel gang up on
you and kill you.
Because you need to understand that that is what happens on DT. You
are not stealing anything from anyone. You are not emotionally scaring
anyone.
If you go into a DT town, as a level one random PK, and kill people.
Then they get real upset with you. You have to ask yourself. "Why
are you hear if you do not understand that death is very real on DT.
Death is random, and happens all the time. The monsters infest the
town."
If people get all mad at you for killing them, then they can go play
on SIX other servers.
See, that NEVER happens over there.
If you do not like being killed in town, what are you doing on DT?
And yes, I understand 100% where people are coming from. I understand
why people would not want to play on DT. I get that totally. Its not
what a real PK server should be. Its nothing like it in fact. And
thats sad.
But as soon as you realize this - it makes it a lot easier to change,
and adapt your opinion.

> Its ok to randomly murder someone in an unfair fight, but not
to lie
> to them if they've just randomly murdered you in an unfair fight.
Ah, but here is where your logic breaks down.
He did not Murder him.
When you go to the PK alter, there is no clause that says you can
only fight in Honorable duels. Not only is there no clause that
says this, but it is COMMON KNOWLEDGE that you will be attacked
at any time.
If he could attack WHITE DOTS and kill them, somehow, in town,
then, THEN he would be murdering someone.
If you turn red on HG, then how can you say "I was mudered
by this player."
How can you say that?
If he did not wish to be attacked in town, why is he red?
Answer me that simple question.
And don't answer it the way we WISH Pk was, but how we all know
it to truly be.
Answer me that simple question. Why is this guy red? Because thats
the part *I* don't get.
How can you not get that if you visit the alter, that you will
be attacked by other red dots?
Are you red Rojon?
Why?
Because YOU made a CHOICE to be white
Why are you not red?
Because you understand what it means to be red, and that is not
for you.
I respect that.
It is not for Druss on HG either. I would never turn red on HG.
Never ever.
But what if I did?
Would I then be allowed to come on this listsever and bitch that
some guy ATTACKED ME!!! He attacked me!!!
Well, duh.
Think of being red this way
You have joined the Muderers Guild.
Or you're james bond and you now have a license to kill.
Only, you can't go out and kill innocent people and then show your
little badge. No, you get locked up for that.
However, if you are in germany, in a bar, and someone kills you,
and then shows the authorities their license to kill, well, thats
ok.
The authorites show the papers to everyone in the bar and go "It's
ok, they were spies."
And everyone nods, and goes, OH, spies. Thats o.k. then. Long as
they don't just randomly kill white dots."
If you join the Murderers Guild, you don't then get to scream "Murder"
when someone kills you.
If you want to do that, then don't join the murders guild.
Why would you turn red on HG and then cry when you are atacked?
What possible reason would you have to turn red?
