| Well,
As usual, let me first thank everyone for the kind comments about
me in the
chat log. ;-)
Those of you who know me in RL, and said nice things about me,
I assume the
standard agreement is in place? You'll be getting a nice check as
usual in
the mail for lying to everyone on my behalf. Ah bribery is a wonderful
thing. :-) We all know I'm a complete bastard in real life, but
you guys
keep the ruse up wonderfully.
Anyway...
Sorry I missed the meeting last night, sounds like quite the turnout
and an
amazingly tired time was had by all. As many have pointed out, it
really
speaks about the quality of the people in this group that so many
would
speak so passionatly so late concerning all of this.
so much to talk about concerning all the notes.....
I think to me, a number of things became very apparent from me
NOT
attending.
1. People who want group events done, should organize group events.
People
like Khali who put in 5-6 hours a week doing the web site are the
ones that
make things happen. Instead of just wishing that we had a web site,
and
saying how nice it would be to have a web site, he puts the time
and effort
into building it and keeping it updated. If you want something done,
then DO
IT! Don't expect someone else to do it for you. I mentioned on this
list
server months ago that people really need to step forward and organize
group
events. They need to know where they are going, tie there, research
what
needs to be done, etc. Its a lot of work. But you can't just complain
about
how no one is doing this anymore, if you are not doing it yourself.
Take the
Fire Stone outing. I organized the first one, I went in three times
to the
Vault, all alone, pretty much naked, died three times in 5 minutes,
and then
reported my findings to the group. I led the group up there, around
the
crater, etc etc. We failed. So Dave takes the lead now. Dave finds
out new
information about the fire stone. He posts it all to the list, he
goes to
get the fire stone with a differenmt group, learns how to do it.
We organize
another time to go, we succeed. It takes a lot of wok to organize
a group
outing, and if you haven't organized one yourself, then you really
need to.
You need to do your part to have the things happen in the source
that you
want to happen.
2. It is regretable that the new members that have just joined,
are caught
up in all of this. Like Hunter's Chase. We adventured together once,
maybe
twice, and then I have all but disappeared from HG. Hunters joined
us
because he saw the tight nit group that we have. Because he did
see us all
adventuring together. And now all of this is going down. Matah (aka
Denise
aka Yasmine) has long been a friend of mine, and I have long wanted
her in
my alliance. I finally convince her to join because she has met
so many good
people in the Source. Then I leave. As luck would have it, Matah
is now
pretty firmly addicted to DT, so she will be adventuring with us
there. But
thats just lucky. To Hunter, I see a lot of the things that you
say. That
having a visible presense is important. That you feel better with
a monarch
that is actualy on the server that you play on. I can see that totally,
and
I have brought that up numorous times. I regret that you had to
join us at
the temultuous time. But, I also think you need to remember you
joined this
group because of the number of people that adventure together. You
kept
seeing them all together. You didn't join because you thought "That
Druss is
a cool guy." This group still has a ton of cool members, some
of whom you
are now adventuring with.
Let me be Brutally honest here for the closure of this letter
I can't make all the people happy.
I have always tried to run this alliance as a democracy, not as
a
dictatorship.
And, to be brutally honest, MOST people like things just the way
they are
right now.
I think that became perfectly clear from the chat log.
Most people are quite happy with the way things are going. They
are content
that I am an absent monarch on HG as long as it says "Reeve
Druss" under
their monarch name.
Most people agree that we need more group events. And most people
agree that
if you want more group events, you shoud probably plan one. Most
people
agree that if you want something done - then do it, don't whine
about it.
Did you see the huge planning that Miko did for the Island trip
explaining
the rules for that adventure? Thats the kind of things you need
to do if you
want more group adventures. The amazing thing is, Miko doesn't even
want
more group adventures, and he's doing all the work on this one.
Think long
and hard about that.
Many people think we need more commitees. Thats great. Now someone
do
something about that. Don't point fingers and say "We need
this and this and
this, why isn't someone doing something about that?" That someone
is you. If
you want something done, and you are not sure about how to do it,
then ask
someone to post a poll about how the committees should be set up.
Poll for
who you think should be on the commitees, etc. It can all be done
by YOU.
The people who most think things should be done.
Also, It is very clear that some people are NOT happy with me being
an
absent monarch.
I am very sorry about that. Sincerely. I am sorry that things have
not
worked out the way that some would want them, and that this alliance
has not
turned out the way you wanted. There are two things that can be
done.
1. We can get a new monarch. Who this is, is beyond me. Because
it seems
clear from the chat log and from polls taken on the web site that
many
people want me to remain as monarch even in an inactive role. Many
others
think Miko should be monarch, and I agree with them. But Miko does
not want
the job, and to be truthful, I would not wish it on him. I have
been
pestering him for days now to let me pledge to him. I won't be asking
him
any more. Because as I realize fro the chat log - you can't please
all the
people all the time. And the chat log shows that me pledging to
miko would
make some people very unhappy. It would solve some problems for
some people,
and create new ones for others. I can't make everyone happy, but
I can make
the Majority happy.
I can't make everyone happy, but I can make the Majority happy.
I can't make everyone happy, but I can make the Majority happy.
And, once again, to be brutally honest, the majority is quite happy
with me
being an absent monarch.
If you are not happy with this, again, I apologize. I do the best
I can, and
I have tried to come to an equitable solution. With 60 full time
members,
some people are just not going to be happy with the chanagr that
has come.
2. You can leave. I don't mean this in any negative way. If this
is no
longer your Camelot, then you are welcome to go and form your own.
I don't
mean that in a wise ass, pick up your toys and go home way. I mean
"Go with
my blessing." Its just a game. I hope you had fun with us when
you were with
us, and I hope you have fun without us. Speak kindly of the time
you had fun
with us, and remember the good times. Look back in happiness, not
with
anger. Sniper is non longer part of the Source? Go in peace. Have
fun. We'll
miss you, but don't hold it against you. Don't hold it against us.
The most important thing I can see that came out of this meeting
is that
most people understand my position, and accept it. And I also see
that most
people would like to keep Reeve Druss as their monarch. Even absent.
I'm
going to once again say that this is a democracy. I'm not going
to upset
ahuge number of loyal people, just to try and keep everyone happy.
In a
group this large, I can't keep everyone happy, and I have to remember
that.
I forget that some times. That pledging to Miko would not solve
all my
problems. That it would solve SOME problems and create more.
Majority rules.
Now get out there and have fun! Organize events! Organize new commitees
to
organize events! Whatever! Just remember -
Your destiny, and your happinesss are in YOUR hands.
Good Luck and Have fun.
Jamie C. Wakefield
Druss
Just about cried with pride at a number of things people said in
the chat
log.
Thank you Fun Chow for keeping all that. Nice job. Thank you Sniper
for
calling the meeting. Thank you Jesse and Keith for speaking on my
behalf so
eloquently. Thank you Stacy for your words of wisdom as well. Thank
you Mike
for reminding me that I can't make all the people happy all the
time. Thank
you red wolf for your wise comments and continued support. And now
I've gone
and thanked too many people because now I've missed some people
by name and
shgould stop before I mention to many people and they say hey "he
didn't
thank me" crap, now I'm rambling. How about - Thank you. Thank
you. Thank
you all!
