The first night the sticky patch was introduced, mare lost EVERYTHING
in The Pit, and almost quit the game.
You used to be able to run around Dereth and explore, and then
in one
fell swoop you couldn't.
Running back t the pit, Tuskers were all of a sudden smashing us
for
unheard of amounts of damage while running.
They would skate behind you and kick you and obscure your view,
even
if you tried to run around them.
If you don't know what AC is like before the stciky bug, you have
no
idea how cool it was before they introduced that horrible
modification.
"You can now defend your friends better"
No....
"You can now be pummeled for running within 20 yards of a
spawn of
monsters."
It has since been toned down but the facts remain the same.
Monsters skating behind you looks LIKE ASS!!! It looks so bad that
it
was singled out as a glaring flaw in Computer Gaming World, and
helped give the game a rating of 2 stars.
You used to be able to explore the dires at level 25, now you have
to
be 40, and you can still die quite easily as many things cling to
you
and bash the crap out of. Despite the fafct that it makes the dires
more dire, it makes the game more frustrating, not less. Turbine
says
they have never recieved so much flak about something EVER as they
have about the sticky patch. Have they removed it? nope.
The only people that really benefit from the sticky patch is unarmed.
I've never seen anyone stick to people like Unarmed do (yet another
reason that unarmed is really the only melee class to play).
Have I mentioned it looks bad?
It also obscures your view so you can't see where you are running
in
a dungeon? instead you see an olthoi back, or a lug back and have
to
guess when to turn.
It drags you into spawns of monsters when you try to attack one
and
it runs home, giving you the message, "you have charged too
far" all
the while dragging you back into a spawn of Umbris or Virindi
frantically beating on the keyboard going STOP STOP BREAK GOD DAMNIT.
And yes, I have tried escape, ~ ctrl esc, everything. So has mare.
I
don't know how they work for other people, but they don't work for
us. You cannot break out of a slide if you are caught unawares and
mess up.
Have I mentioned it looks bad?
Lets just say the game was better before the sticky, people have
complained about it for months, andyet, it still remains.
