| Normally my life is fairly dull, I station my
self in Mayoi and serve as porter to my lord Brin, with the hopes
of someday following in his footsteps and honing my skills with locks
and bows both. |
|
| This weekend though I had my first taste of adrenaline
and excitement, I dare say I liked it considerably. |
|
| I was casually moving about the calm avenues of
Mayoi, when to my surprise a warrior bathed in blood to the extent
that he almost seemed to glow with a red hue sauntered into town.
There were sharp intakes of breath and whispered mutterings, "That
one has left the blessing of Asheron!". |
|
| I took a closer look at the warrior and behind
the steely gaze I saw the one known as Pain Corp, and believe you
me, he looked aptly named to one such as I. Recognising him as one
far advanced in the brotherhood of The Source I thought to hail him,
but then debated with myself whether he would bother to notice a simple
servant such as myself. |
|
| As I pondered, another warrior, forsaken by Asheron
also, entered town. The air went calm, but tension rose. I looked
to the new warrior, Ghengis Khan, he carried a Great Bow, his eyes
were hard, but furtive and fearful as he saw Pain Corp across the
town square. He back-pedalled, with a chuckle, Pain called out, "Don't
trip..." |
|
| Ghengis appeared to run, but something in his
eyes seemed wrong for a fleeing man. I moved in the direction he had
gone but kept myself within eyesight of Pain. Ghengis moved to the
high Tower that the Mages called home, continued past towards the
jeweller, but then, what's this? He's heading down into the valley
in the direction of Pain! His bow is drawn, an arrow knocked, he has
no intention of running! 'Twas merely a ruse! He is attempting to
strike an open flank. My heart has leapt into my throat and I hear
the blood pounding in my ears, I offer a prayer of thanks to Asheron
for his protection, without it this man could strike me down with
hardly more than a glance. |
|
| Hurriedly I dispatch a message to Pain Corp that
the cur is circling him, in my haste the words do not flow cleanly,
but I am certain that my intent is clear. Ghengis tries the hillside,
the valley and even the Tavern for a useful vantage point, finding
none that allow him a clear shot (whether by happenstance or because
of my rushed warning I know not) he enters the nearby pub and vanishes.
|
|
| An ally of Pain Corp (Darius of Arwic?) sent word
to me, asking if I was still nearby this Ghengis of Khan, I let him
know what had transpired as my pulse returned to a more leisurely
pace. |
|
| I headed back to the hustle and bustle of the
shops reflecting on the days excitement. |
|
| A short while later this denizen of Arwic calls
out to me again, asking if I am still in Mayoi, indeed, I rarely leave,
even the roads in this countryside are filled with dangers for one
such as I, I don't have the same freedom of movement that my master
Brin enjoys. I answer back I the affirmative and lo and behold the
Khan has returned! Re-entering the town unimpeded, he proceeds to
scale the armoury, and take up roost with a vantage point covering
all of the town. From here it is clear that he will easily strike
down anyone that attempts to close on him with sword or axe. |
|
| I inform Darius(?), he hurriedly asks me if I
can see the type of arrow Ghengis is prepared with, I hold my hand
to my brow to shade the blazing sun and can see the crackling energy
of a tamed bolt of Lightning surround the arrowhead. Darius thanks
me for the information. |
|
| My heart pounds again, but yet I have errands
to complete, I leave the cat and mouse games to the warriors suited
to those tasks. |
|
| The experience was amazing and yet I was simply
a bystander and not even witness to any real combat! I feel certain
that my lord Brin Lokison will want to taste this in full once he
feels himself ready... |
