Chinook's Night
by Chinook (7/13/00) |
Well this was a short and not so sweet night.
When last we left our intrepid speedster, he had run out of vital
components.
Both Malachite and Hyssop had run out at the same time.
Mana stones were also depleted.
After a quick request to Lugian Citadel hunters, Chinook was able
to recall out and log in the Yanshi tower.
Next log on, Chinook loads up the buffs but can't buff his Bow without
Hyssop.
Checking the ammo reveals only 2 Greater Lightning arrows and several
odds and sods, time to restock from Wood Lily in Mayoi.
First thing though, get into Yanshi, sell, and buy some basic comps.
Chinook heads into town, sees 2 Red Dots and skirts the town out of
sight to the Mage shop.
No dice.
The Red Dots are looking for trouble.
Chinook examines them, both "blah blah XL" guys.
Leaden Feet V lands.
Chinook decides to live to fight another day and hoofs it out of town.
Slowness V lands.
Chinook checks stats, debuffed to a run of 199 and continues to head
west out of town waiting for the slow red dots behind to slide off
screen then it's time to change direction and lose them.
Weakness V lands. UGGGHHHHH!!
Chinook has pulled away off screen but now has stats reduced by 60%
due to overburden.
Chinook breaks North but the red dots can still see him off radar
and follow.
Time to get outta Dereth.
En'Lighten enters the world and quickly determines that the XL dots
are now busy dying to Big, a Black Rose Noble.
Chinook returns and pesters TSS, Sister C and Herrimone with tells
out of boredom waiting for the debuffs to wear off.
Finally, it's time to try again.
Once more unto the Yanshi!!
This time, the shopkeepers are alone in Yanshi.
After selling armour, weapons and jewellery, Chinook again heads to
the Mage shop and hollers through the wall his shopping list.
Chinook is ignored.
Hmmm, Dhali said this shop had a drive through window, but apparently
Chinook doesn't know where it is.
Oh well, best just go in and shop.
Chinook grabs some Hyssop, some Malachite, a splash of Quicksilver,
and then notices 3 Red Dots have come in to shop too, oddly enough
though, these shoppers have weapons drawn.
An Archer declares Chinook's shopping trip over with an arrow out
of a Composite bow for 37 damage.
Chinook tries to run out the door, but the Archer is blocking the
exit.
22 Damage! Ouch!!!
Chinook quickly heads for the back door.
Slowness III lands.
Leaden Feet III lands.
Weakness III lands.
More damage.
Damn! How many casters are here? Chinook wonders.
But Chinook smirks, only III's?
Chinook is wearing STR III now and has already off loaded the gear
that was weighing him down.
His fleet feet pound the southern road out of Yanshi strafing all
the way.
A glance at his Health reveals a dangerously low level, about 28.
Chinook counts the chasing dots.
There are 5 in sight. FIVE!!
He feels the tendrils of magic reach out for him, but easily outdistances
them.
The hunters give chase, confident that their wounded, debuffed prey
will fall to them.
The Shoushi Portal is a LONG ways away when you're hurting, debuffed
and being gang banged.
But these hunters don't know their prey. They have no idea that Chinook
was born in the wind.
They will NOT run Chinook down.
They had their chance when the cursed walls held Chinook in.
Chinook spreads his arms and feels the wind course over his body,
invigorating his form.
Enjoying the chase, he laughs at the slowness of his pursuers.
In disbelief, one cries out "Frack" as Chinook has the portal
in sight.
Entering the portal, Chinook disappears from Dereth.
Chinook
P.S. I never before realised what "portal logging" was before
TSS talked about it recently.
Didn't feel a damn bit bad about doing it in this situation either.
I sent En'Lighten over to check out the portal shortly after logging
Chinook.
There was a group of at least 6 camping it, my pursuers hadn't given
up yet. |
