Dactra's Goodbye
by Dactra (5/10/00)
Hello All,
Wow, real life is dull without AC, BUT.... I think its probably best. Its been weighing on my mind recently what needs to be done, whether I want to spend my precious brain cells consuming twinkies in front of a TV screen and beating up a bunch of pixels that are enormously well put together,or actually live in the real world and hope I can get my act together before my bills and life, and outside troubles get the best of me. *uggh* Whine like a child have I... and then some.
Yet in some ways I hope I've brought a few smiles. My wallet was stollen about a week ago and I cancelled my credit card, thus inadvertantly cancelling my subscription to AC. Well not yet anyways, but soon I think. I don't have much, but I'm going to pretty much give as much back to the source as I can. For an 18th level warrior, I think Dactra was well built. I would have wished to watch him Grow, and get tougher and kill olthoi, BUT.. There's a lot out in the world, and I have to get moving for now. I have to quit AC. Which REALLY sucks. On the other hand, I have to live. My future is uncertain. We're supposed to get the bruhaha about moving into barracks, and all that other good gooberstuff by the end of next week, but for now, I have to look at things this way. The chances for me getting to play AC are phenomenally slim. So without really giving it too much more serious considerable thought, I'm just going to say "Good Bye" and give my access to Draco. He can mule everything before the Characters go into that big black void of memory and then you guys can decide on what you want to do from there. It was SOOO much fun playing with you all. I'm too much of a loner in most things, but I think that for the better of the few moments I was introduced and played with the members of the source, I had a blast doing it.
On top of that, if I didn't have morals, I think I would be a fantastic Saga-Master. Unfortunately, THERE IS more to life than simply rutting, and I'd have to say that being a hero is 2 parts honor, one part righteous rage, a lot of beautiful words and one humongous axe. Add that all together an bad boys beware. Muhahahahahaha. It was good though, all things being equal. I will enjoy the moments I had and then some. Thanks for a lot of great memories guys.
*Dactra Sharply Salutes his monarch and his Queen, turns swiftly, the billowing cloak shroud flowing out behind him, and then bows to his comrades of the Source. With a flick of his wrist and a mischievous smirk, he vanishes. All thats left of him are the clothes he wore, some weapons, a few magic items and a few spell components.*
He awakens in tattered rags, and turns to the old man sitting by the fire. His soul had returned. He smiled gently and then picked up a bowl of steaming vegetables from the stand near the long wooden Cot on which he had slept.
"How Long was I gone?" He whispered.
"Long enough," came the sound of a gruff voice from the direction of the old man who sat fidgeting with something in his hands. Dactra's eyes could not see, because the old mans back was to him. "Long enough to have nearly been swept away by the mists of the source."
"The Source," He took another swift bite, and stood up carrying the bowl over and sitting cross legged across from the man, feeling the warmth from the fire in the roughly made stone hearth.
"Ay Laddie, You saw him?" The old mans eyes gleamed when he turned over the rough material that he had been fidgeting with.
"Ay, I saw him. He fought well. He's much shorter than the man I pictured." Dactra broke a smile as he slurpped on the long green that dangled from his chin. The old man looked up from his lap quizzically, "Oh?"
"Ay, He was not quite as tall as the Sequoia's. Only by half," Dactra's laughter echoed out in the small one room hut.
"True enough," The old man laughed in spite of himself.
"Dac, what do you suppose is the key to it all?" Dactra's eyes were distant and lost. He slowly scratched his chin, and smiled."I'd have to say that the Saga poets are morons. They speak Volumes of Druss and his unstoppable Axe and all of his adventures, yet they miss the rest."
"The rest?" The old mans eyes flashed a questioning look.
"Ay, His Love of Sister C, The source, the very heart of Druss's own comrades. I knew a few of these, yet I will try to tell you as much as I can for the short amount of time I knew them. Mizu-no, an archer with a talent for killing umbris, Miko-K-sun, Leadership unparralleled in many ways. Movarl, a good humor, and a strong arm. Runac, a man of charm and good natured thought. Rojon, Hiya and Rhodry, Three I don't think could have complimented each other better. Reminds me of Kasu Khan, Dekra, and Jo-shun here at Delnoch. MuttFyre. Now there was a man. Indeed. His going away spoke volumes about the Loyalty of the source." The older man coughed and smiled, "And I'm sure your poetic thoughts rang out in that warm evening, did they not?" Dactra smiled inwardly remembering the fireworks and the banquet. The battles on Bandie hill, and the swarms of Source members who attended. "Ay, that they did my friend, I just couldn't resist. Let me continue. Draco, a Brother of fhe Blades was my patron. A goodly man, strong, insured and well put. He divided his time between his adventures and his home life. I will forever be grateful for all the awesome help he's offered me. Hiya Aokawa adding to the list of those who have helped me in that stead. And then the source members I knew little of, but some of which I fought with, and others still I give great worth. Runac, Ictinhival, Rach'mann, Khali, Simone, Doria the seeker, Crimson Shadow, Hiro, Balgarion, Stylgar, Cyblade, Herrigal Eugen, I could continue even to the ends of this list, but the truth is, I have fought with many and still, I am content. The old man adjusted himself furtively, "Ahhh.... So I see," His smile widening into a broad faced Grin. "What of love? Did you find Love in Dereth?" Dactras smile turned sad as he walked to the pot hanging over the fire and spooned out some more vegetables. His eyes staring into the fire, he turned slowly and silently sat cross legged once more before the old man studying the lines and the face, and the leather jerkin on which concealed several well crafted knives within easy reach. "Alas, my friend, I found only Death." The older man patted his leg and smiled, "She will come Dactra, she will come. And it will not be the legend she searches for, but the man himself." Dactra listened to the crickets outside the door, and patted the double bladed axe that lay at his side. The Perfect ebony handle comforting his very soul, as the voices of time whispered to him. The perfect blades molded in the shape of butterfly wings glistened with the runes an the words that stung his mind. He had seen in another world, in another time, that very blade do horrific things, but the man was dead, and the Axe was all that remained. Dactra's time had come.
"Are you leaving so soon My friend?" The old man whispered as Dactra smoothed out his black leather breastplate and put it on. The silver mesh of the chainmail and the black ebony leather greeves with the rune symbols grafted in them. He turned as he placed the gauntlets on his hands and smiled. "Skoda is not far Telris, I'll Lay this Death stick to rest for an old friend and then I'll be back. Till then, you take care."
The old man smiled and embraced him in a warriors embrace. "I shall wait upon you then." He watched as Dactra mounted his horse and turned for the mountains. Holding the Axe aloft, he raced off into the setting sun.
The old man turned suddenly and smiled as a slim figured woman walked up behind him and touched his shoulder gently, "Is he coming back father?" He smiled up at her that Doleful smile, "I had hoped, but the source has shown me his path. He will not." A single tear streaked down her face, the gentle rising and falling of her bosom now erratic and broken. She turned and moved off through the tall grass to the stables beyond the small cottage. The old man moved back into the cottage and turned lay down on the cot. He slowed his breathing and once again walked the mists at last in his own mind materializing before a large sign next to a strangely dressed man. He looked up, and smiled at the writing on the sign. *Now entering Yanshi village*
