Wow what a loooong day (Deao gets his ass handed to him)
by Deao (7/16/00)
Just a brief synopsis. I finally get back on, and go hunt umbris for a short
period of time. Miko is filling me in on the new island some. So I finsih
my plains circuit, go sell and restock on comps. Get coords from miko, and
run like hell sw from weijou to the LS and the undead d00d that ports you out
to the island. Wow, that island is amazing. I think I equated it to being
level 1 and running like hell from a vorous shreth, or something like that.
Miko heads off to the wedding I think, so I head out, sell restock(you know
the routine)drop my Dnote and head back to the island. It's pretty quiet
there, so I have pretty much free rein to run the edge of the island, killing
coral golems. These are my new favorite creatures. They have the potential
to drop top end loot, are worth 36k everytime I kill one, and shoot one
spell, acid stream VI. Thing is though, I was imping and baning every piece
of clothing and armor I had, and would still take 20-40 point crits on
occasion. These things are level 341, and hit HARD. Well, manage to finally
make level 52(pats himself on the back) and still have a few comps left when
I see a gathering. Turns out that a bunch of the power players on HG or
making a run to the Foundry(one of the new dungeons). Apparently, rumour has
it there is another soulstone there(i.e. Frore, Nexus) So I get sucked into a
fellow, and about 15 people make the run there. Average level, 60 or so.
Not a small group at all. A few of the more notables included Sinath, Hell
Maker, Egwene, Evil Elvis, and Zz Dagger. Big big people. I was one of the
smallest guys there. Well, the run to the foundry isn't all that far. Maybe
5-10 minutes with the occasional stop to kill something to big to run by.
Yes, there is that stuff there, even with all of those big people. Even so,
two people died on the way just running through stuff. Slip inside the
dungeon. Fire and bludgeon they tell me, and I see they are right. Magma
golems, Fire wisps, inferno's, something like an inferno on crack, Unstable
magma's, diamonds, vapor golems, all kinds fo burning and bashing goodness.
I'm told the goal is a spot called the sluice bar, near the bottom. We are
moving along fairly well, only one death, when we reach the first plasma
golem. Two people die like they weren't even there, and it locks on me. I
manage to stick a yield, but get pounded.(Didn't notice at the time, but it
was doing lightning damage, and me without a prot up) I back out, heal, back
out some more, trying to get people between me and it, heal again. Finally
think I am in a safe spot up a ramp and back a little bit. I lay down to get
some stam so I can heal again and get some mana when low and behold, I get
popped by a lightning bolt and die. That's when I noticed the electrical
currents making my hair stand on end. I lose some death items and a gift
from Syrus before she canceled her account(for those of you who knew her) So,
while I'm gathering myself, getting comps, restocking, I find out that
everyone else died about 5 minutes after I did on the next level down.
Everyone. That dungeon is brutal. I sigh, figure it's a lost cause, and
head back to the island to work vitae. Make some mroe xp, go out with Miko
and Gryff, and we roll a bunch of corals. Even fellowed, they are still good
xp, but bring the acid and blud prots. Then, for some insane reason, I
decide that I think I can make a run to my body. Full buffs, I should be
able to run through that dungeon, as long as I only stop to heal. There
weren't alot of creatures in any one spot, just BIG ones. On top of which my
body wasn't in a spawn spot. No problem right? Hahaha. Not 5 minutes later,
I hit a lag spot, end up running across this valley. As I catch up, I see
nothing but orange on my radar, I know this is bad and try to portal out,
only to die in the animation. It's never a good thing to catch up, and as
your catching up, see the dozen or so imperils and vulns strike you all at
once. Check the list, hmmm, more jewlery and my diamond staff. Welp, look,
there's Oasis, let's see if he can help me. So we suit up, gryff logs, miko
decideds to come with, and doesn't even make the run around the beach edge.
Not an auspicious start to body recovery. Get there with O. Check the lay
of the land, kill some stuff to try to get close to my corpse. He decides to
run through and pinpoint my corpse. I get a msg from him"Come through, it's
easier to reach from the other side" I'm like, ok, I can at least run
through. All banes on the robe, all prots up, run strength and quickness
buffed, No problem, I should be able to make it through. So I make the run
zigging and zagging to dodge spells. Eat imperil, eat fire vuln, eat cold
vuln(magic D of 235 buffed doesn't cut it here) eat lightning vuln, eat
weakness, eat bafflement, eat feeblemind, eat war inept(not that I'm even
THINKing about stopping tokill anything)eat life inept, and the debuffs go on
and on and on. I'm just about clear as I'm watching my life drop. 37 from a
lightning bolt, 25 from some cursed bones. Alot of 2 point shots from
various drudges. The lst 100 points or so? Rats. Wasteland rats. Probably
at least 6-10 of them. They attack blazingly fast. I wish I would have
remembered to copy and paste the thing so you could see. 100+ points, 1
point at a time, to rats I had no chance in hell of outrunning. I was amazed,
and my spirits crushed. This island kicked my ass. Ask Miko. I think he
made a statement to me about not even being more than 2 klicks away from the
entrance yet. Not that he hasn't tried, just hasn't made it. I feel SO
small playing there. Level 45+ level restriction, and you notice how they
always seem to make the restriction about 10-15 levels lowers than you need
to ahve a chance in hell of soloing there, right? Assuming noone else is
there. Think about it. If lugie citadel was empty, completely empty, and
you were the only soul there, I would say you'd need to be abotu level 25 or
so to make it any respectable distance into it. Well, this island, to make
any decent distance solo, get to at LEAST level 60. I felt lucky to come out
of that island with my robe and my will VI ring. That's all I had left, I
lost everything else. All of it. And I knew that unless I could round up
about 10 people level 50+, it was gone. I had no chance there. I've lost
maybe three bodies in the entire time 've played AC. I left three on that
island in one day. Don't bring anything your attached to guys. I'm already
looking at muling my robe if I plan on making forays into the island's
interior. Maybe. Depends on how many death items I can round up to protect
it. Either way, even though the xp is so-so, the treasure is decent, and
it's a major challenge. I recommend anyone who hasn't been there to take a
look at it. One Dnote per portal ride, but if your careful, you can make
more than enough money there to support the portaling habit. Just wanted to
let everyone know what I was up to yesterday, basically, getting my ass
kicked left and right.

Mike a.k.a. Deao "SuperGimp"

P.S. FYI, Coral Golem, level 341 370/370/270/270/270/270, 600, 511, 471.
Those are the stats on it. Hits like a house is falling on you. Slings acid
stream VI like an Alien.
