Fort Thethesource
by Hakeem (2/9/00) |
| I am still in the Dires, but had
a non-Source friend of mine ask me to help him get out to the Dires.
I checked to see if Gar or Rhodry were on, but they weren't and I
wasn't sure I'd feel comfortable asking them to portal a total stranger
out here. |
|
| So I told my buddy about the Drunken
Madman. I thought it would bring him to the Fort, but alas, it portaled
him to the middle of the Dires. About 20 degrees south of the fort.
So I run down there, and had a heck of a time mainly because of the
land layout. The creatures along the way weren't bad, as long as you
dodge while running, and heal when you're in the open. Oh, and keep
Armor Self up as long as possible. |
|
| I managed to make it to him, and
he was in this little enclosure, with walkways from the outside to
the top, but nothing from the inside to get out. Ugh. He's inside
there, but there are two portals, so that's good, right? I run up
the ladder, and drop down, and i can see that portal one goes back
to Baishi, I think. the second goes to Accursed Halls portal, but
not actually in the Accursed halls. |
|
| So we jump in that one, and end
up going another 20 degrees East. Ugh. So now I'm even further way
from Fort Tethana, and I'm in another little enclosure thingy. This
one however has ladders on the inside to the top wall, and you can
jump out. But it's late, and I tell him we'll try and make it to the
Fort tomorrow. |
|
| He jumps back to Baishi via Portals,
and I log out. |
|
| I try and log in last night, but
am having problems with my ISP. I can hit some sites, but can't hit
the Zone. CRAP! |
|
| So this morning I log in, and
I see an Iron golem not far from me. I only have a few minutes so
I decide to see what I can do. He resists over and over my acid shots.
So I put on Focus III and Willpower III jewelry, hit myself with War
Mastery II, and start hitting him. Amazing! I'm actually hitting a
metallic golem. Awesome! I take him down and log out to go to work. |
|
| I go home, and find he's off today.
We try out Roger Wilco, and it is AMAZING. I noticed no slowdown in
the game, and only a very minor delay in talking back and forth. My
headset that I picked up is ass, so I'll probably pick up a new one,
but this adds an entirely new dimension to the game. I encourage everyone
to at LEAST try it and see what you think. |
|
| Oh, and before I went on my little
escort mission, (which is still imcomplete) I was able to add new
creatures to my killable list. |
|
| I killed an Ash Gromnie solo.
Didn't take a hit. Here's the thing though... Have you ever started
launching war spells at a creature, it starts toward you, you fire
again, and it slides back a bit, then starts towards you again, so
you fire again. It slides back again, and starts toward you again.
Repeat ad nauseum? I'm sure this is a bug, but I can't stop firing
at the thing. I don't know how to make it do this, and it only has
happened once or twice to me, but that's how I killed it. So, does
that count? I mean, should I have stopped firing to let it get close?
Do creatures ever cut me any slack when I lag? I thought not, so..
I guess it's ok, right? |
|
| Anyways. I also have killed all
3 types of Dires Drudges. Lurkers, Raveners, and Stalkers. Flame Vuln
and Flame Bolts. Booyah. |
|
| Um. What else. Iron Golems now,
at least when buffed... Gold Wasps, solo.. |
|
| Here's my technique on gold wasps.
Fire Shock Waves at them. They're not loyal to each other, so only
the one should come at you. Keep firing at him. He'll launch some
kind of lightning attack at you, over and over. Keep healing yourself
until he runs out of mana. Then he'll start slashing at you. Fire
Shock Waves again at him until he's dead. Heal yourself if necessary.
Or, snipe them from a tower, and they usually can't hit you with their
bolts. Note: This doesn't ALWAYS work. He may win the damage to healing
race. (Reminds me of sligh vs. suicide black races.. but that's a
different story.) |
|
| Khali's right on with the Priest
strategy. Works well with Skeletons and the other tumeroks also that
shoot missle attacks. Fire, strafe left, fire again, strafe right.
Many creatures use missle attacks out here. Skeletons, Tumeroks, some
of the monougas, and I think some of the Drudges as well. |
|
| Vitae: Vitae is an almost constant
attribute for me, but I try and keep it as low as possible. It's easy
to reduce if you're careful, and easy to increase if you're not. |
|
| The general lay of the land is: |
|
| From the fort, just SE is the
lifestone. |
|
| To the West is the 'hunting ground.
the middle of the hunting ground has shadows, and maybe some tumeroks.
The north has a hut with a mage that sells components. A few feet
north of that is a temple (small building that goes underground) that
has a Granny golem that spawns every few minutes. (Drain works well
on this as well, at least for the first few points of damage.) |
|
| West of granite golem are various
things, that change. Monouga one minute, gold wasps, or copper golems
the next. |
|
| If you keep going west, you'll
start climbing a mountain. That's where I've seen a Virindi. It resisted
everything I threw at it, so i left it alone. |
|
| South of the mage hut, past the
shadows in the middle is another temple with about 6 wild monouga's.
These guys are great. Just don't get swarmed. Easy to take one, or
maybe two, but if they all start chasing you, watch out. |
|
| The fort is surrounded to the
north, east, and west by mountains that are climbable. to the south,
is a valley. The lifestone that's to the southwest is on the side
of the mountain going down toward the valley. I haven't explored the
valley area as much, since the hunting ground to the west of the fort
is so ripe. |
|
| Oh, to the west of the monouga
temple, just a few feet away are skeletons, and also silver rats.
I haven't tried a rat yet, but I might try that tonight, if I have
a chance to. |
|
| I hope to make it back out there
tonight. I'm pretty far away, but I'm tied to that lifestone, so I
guess I'll make it there one way or the other.. :) |
|
| Hope to see you all there soon.
