A day in the life of an Augmented Drudge
by Movarl (8/8/00)
The sun broke free of it's rocky prison as it crept up into the sky.
Fire's dotted the hillsides, along the slopes of Aerlinth Isle. The
predators that slept rose to the greetings of the sun. Many of them
grew weary of the growing prescence of adventurers who had begun to
journey to their home.
This particular morning, a Drudge had awoken from it's slumber with
an empty stomach. It had been a long night, those foolish enough to
take on the Drudge were soon found running from it wicked fire
emblazened sword. Those that stood to fight, they suffered a fate
more horrifying then that of a few welts.
It wasn't often that the Drudges on this island had to fight, they
had lived in relative ease. The comforts of that the island afforded
them were all they desired. Occassionally, a feud between the more
territorial creatures would break out, but in general, life had
always been good.
The hunger had grown strong though, and it was time to eat. Food was
ever abundent on this island, but not the food of the Osteth Drudges,
no the food this Drudge desired was the meat of a Shreth. In
particular, the Hunter varity. Malus Shreth were often found, but
because of their size, and the density of muscle on them, the meat
they provided was often tough to chew. So the Hunter Shreth was often
the preferred choice, even though they are smaller, they are much
easier pray.
The problem, though is to find one that is alone. Often they
accompany Malus Shreth and while one or two Malus are often easy to
take out, a horde could prove deadly.
Slowly moving away from it's current camping grounds, the Drudge knew
that most Shreth lay in the valleys of the island, and so he must
make his way from mountain top to valley. The climb though was often
difficult so caution was needed. He made his way to the edge of
cliff, looking down he could spy some Shreth in the valley, in their
midst was a few Hunter. The hunger was too much for him to stand, and
against all good sense, he decided to climb down the face of the
mountain.
The decent started off well, a good amount of places to hold on, but
quickly they ran out. He would have to choose his spots carefully
now. Looking about he found a small nook, good enough he thought. He
began to place his foot into the hold when his other foot came loose.
Off balance the Drudge plummetted into the valley.
Maybe, he thought, as he hit the ground, this wasn't such a good idea.

To be continued...
