Fight Night
by Sister C (7/6/00)
OMG WAS THAT FUN OR WHAT?????

Did anyone else have trouble getting to sleep last night????

Was great to see so many people turn out, the matches were fun and I learned
a TON. A BIG thanks to Dhali for putting this together for us to enjoy.

I really don't consider myself very good pvp material as I tend to be more
methodical in my tactics -- and time is not on your side in pvp and it
doesn't help that I always seem to be pushing the wrong button no matter how
hard I try to keep my fingers on the right keys (reminder to self: heal
other is not a good tactic against the enemy!!! heehee :-)

A few thoughts from Sister C:

Druss vs. Sister C

I was more worried about his healing kits than I was his axe. I had to
figure out how to get him to "fail to heal yourself" range. Lucky for me
imp III and piercing vuln III both stuck first try. Turn my power bar all
the way to the left and attack as fast as I can -- less damage per hit but
more hits and more fast chances to get that one lucky hit that gets him into
that "fail" range.

Did I mention that I love my gertarh's???? *giggle*

P.S. And the best part is -- I didnt' have to sleep on the couch!! heehee

Us against the Boss:

Earlier in the day TSS had kindly allowed me to use him as a guinea pig to
learn some spells while we were out at the lug citidel. So, I took that
opportunity one step further to see what, if any spells, I could get to
stick on him (not that he himself was at all curious to see if my spells
would work on him!! heehee). It was quickly obvious that I had about a 10%
or less chance of getting any imp/vuln spell to stick on him. Although when
he took his lvl IV buffs off -- my chances increased quite a bit :-)

He mentioned that without my spells sticking that the outcome of the
handicap match was looking pretty grim. GRIM!! Hell no!! Even if we all
died -- it would be worth it as what we would learn would be invaluable. And
it was.

Tactics -- tag team and run. If my imp and vuln didnt' stick our only hope
to actually take TSS down was Chinook. The goal in my mind was to *try* to
imp/vuln tss and then have druss/sister run intereference to keep chinook
alive. If you get to 50% health, run and heal and join in again. BUT!!! I
hadn't counted on how hard it was going to be for me to keep track of that
caffeine-injecting-running-like-the-flash-patron-of-mine-Chinook :-)

I did get lucky and got imp i and imp II to stick early on (tactic was to
start with I, if that stuck, try II, if that stuck try III and try a
piercing vuln just for fun :-). When we all actually got to work on him at
the same time, we actually got close(!) once -- his health did dip below
half. On some level, I consider it a small victory that we made the boss
wash down some healing potions :-)

After the falling of my fellow warriors I knew I had less than zero chance
to take him down so I took the opportunity to learn and test myself -- how
long could I live, how many different things could I think of to try under
the pressure of facing an enemy and in the end how long could I stand toe to
toe with the boss :-)

Overall, I must have tried 15 times to imp/vuln him -- I think only imp I
and imp II stuck if I remember correctly. But, in part, I wanted to get a
sense of timing/distances/how many times could I try before he reached me,
etc. in a real battle against someone that is higher lvl, perhaps faster
and more knowledgeable in pvp. So I kept trying at different times.

I wanted to know how my buffed run of 256 compared to his (which was no
doubt buffed to try to keep up with chinook and sister) -- could I stick to
him?? Could I out run him?

I run in to go toe to toe with him -- he brittlemails my shield -- no chance
without a shield-- so I make tracks, get out of radar range, pull out my
wand and imp III and bane my shield -- under the stress of battle I could
not logically think of whether or not imp would help -- but I figured it
wouldn't hurt so what the heck.

I run back in, he starts to beat on me again, buffs go down -- make tracks,
outta radar range, buff up again and run back.

When I figure I have had my fair share of learning experience (and I figure
TSS is probably just about asleep waiting for me to return yet again!! lol)
I decide its time to draw this battle to a close. I run back in one final
time and stand toe to toe with the boss. I did manage to actually scratch
him a couple times!! heehee But more importantly I was thrilled to see that
he didn't hit me for as much average damage per hit as I would have
expected. Although earlier he had managed to hit me from behind for 44 in
one shot.

One thing I was really pleased about was managing my health/stamina/mana.
Being that I have limited mana its important that I manage it well (which I
don't usually do!!) I was able to quickly figure out whether to do stamina
to mana, slurp down a mana potion or a stamina potion and puish zharil, etc.

I would love to do a re-match -- but this time trying to make the playing
field a little more even. Put a cap on what level buffs you can use
(everyone has to use the same level) and maybe limiting the jewelry buffs
you can use (tss has a distinct advantage by being able to use lvl IV & V
jewelry/buffs while the rest of us are using lvl II and maybe armor III).

TSS did a great job and seeing him in action always makes me just a little
prouder to call him my monarch.

*Sister C bows deep*

Some of the things I learned/observed/etc.:

1. Run is worth every xp I have pumped into it.

2. As soon as I am casting lvl IV item spells all my xp goes into my life
magic skill (I WILL get those spells to stick to the boss damnit!!!
*giggle*).

3. I can't wait til lvl 35 to get healing (ok,so I already knew that ....)

4. Was absolutely amazed/thrilled from a meleer's point of view to see
Druss evading Chinook's arrows.

5. Need to figure out how to remap my spell bar to make it more efficient
(remembering that heal other is not a good tactic against the enemy :-)

6. Need to figure out how better to keep track of my team members. I think
maybe if I could have kept better track of chinook we would have had a
*slightly* better chance.

7. Its a small point, but might be worth reminding people with lightning
weapons that the sparkle of their weapon can be see well off radar range
distance -- so for that rare occasion (low on health, you don't want the
enemy to know where you are, etc.) you don't wanna be seen ... put your
sparkly weapon away.

8. I need to learn brittlemail and leaden weapon and get all my pro's and
vuln's up to current level.

9. Need to figure out how to convince turbine that they don't give us
enough hot slots :-)

10. Oh yea, did anyone noticed that I did NOT imperil any of my fellow
warriors!!! huh??? huh??? huh????? I have witnesses to that Dhali!!! :-P
*giggle*

Sister C's top 10 DT goals:

1. Get my dagger skill to 300 buffed (currently buffs to 220's with lvl II
buffs).

2. Get item skill up high enough to cast lvl IV spells and learn summon
portal.

3. Get arcane up enough to use lvl III jewelry -- even with vitae.

4. Get life skill up high enough to imperil/drain people higher level than
myself *COUGHBOSSCOUGH*

5. Reach lvl35 and get healing

6. Once I have reached 1-5 above (and if I haven't taken the opportunity to
do so already!) - hunt Lark the Prophet and kick his ass.

7. Wait for him to turn red again and hunt Lark the Prophet and kick his
ass.

8. Wait for him to turn red again and hunt Lark the Prophet and kick his
ass.

9. Wait for him to turn red again and hunt Lark the Prophet and kick his
ass.

10. Wait for him to turn red again and hunt Lark the Prophet and kick his
ass.

10a. Get my strength high enough to actually be able to think about the
possibility of no-drop armor in the event I could manage to collect enough
pieces parts to do it.

Ohhh I am sure I could think of lots of other things to ramble on endlessly
about but work calls -- damn real life stuff anyway!! lol

Thanks again everyone, it was an awesome night!
