Wow, what an action packed evening! I'd I'm proud to say that everything
ent PERFECTLY...the crowd was well behaved, the participants were
all present, there were no raids or interruption, ther was next to
no lag (at least for me), the vitae burning system worked perfectly
(with me and Dhali transporting Druss to help him get rid of his vitae).
I had a great time, and I think that was perhaps THE best DT Source
event ever!
Huge thanks go out to Dhali, the organizer, and to Druss, C, Chinook,
and Drake Draco for their participation. Thanks to Deao for his commentary
and insights and to the rest of the crowd for being well behaved,
polite, and for their commennts and interest as well.
The first fight of the night was me against Dhali. Basically, I used
my five buffs on two weapons, fire Yari and lightning Atlan, but kept
the lightning weapon out and visible. As the fight started and I charged,
Dhali threw up lightning protection (hee hee!) and I switched to fire
and started blasting away for some pretty good damage. I'm not sure
what 5 buffs Dhali chose, but Life Mastery apparently wasn't one of
them, because I resisted his first drain and, like a hockey thug with
new gloves, he was one punch behind the whole match. Carefully gauging
the damage he was doing with his drains, I figured that since he hadn't
landed a vuln, I had him beat. Eventually he got me too low to drain
effectively and had to switch to war, but before Dhali could land
the killing blow, I cut him down with 46 HP left. A good fight. I
think Dhali's buffing sequence might have been the reason for his
loss if it focused too highly on lightning protection.
Next we had Druss against Sister C, and basically Sister C kicked
his ass. Imperil III, DING! Piercing Vuln, DING! Gertahr's Dagger
does a LOT of damage! Poor Druss valiantly tried to heal, but those
Dagger/Life/Item chicks are broken :) Sister C wins in a quick one.
Poor Druss.
Next was Druss against Chinook, and Druss had 5% vitae. so I thought
that might tilt the match in Chinook's favor. Unfortunately, as Melee/Archer
matchuos tend to go, Druss' shield was too much for Chinook to beat
through even with Greater Lightning Arrows. Chinook had to rely on
his speed, and he did, with gerat results...poor Druss couldn't land
the telling blow, though he was firmly in control. It was a draw and
a good fight by both men, though I think Chinook could have won it
if he had managed to land Brittlemail III on Druss' shield. I assumed
Druss would win because Chinook had no shield, but Chinook's Melee
Defense proved too high.
The next match, if I'm not mistaken, was Chinook and Drake against
Dhali. This one was interesting, though both Deao and I were wondering
why Drake wasn't healing when he had the chance- seems as if Chinook
told him not to. Dhali landed a Fire Vuln on both Drake and Chinook
and I didn't see either one put of the relevent protections so I'm
assuming neither had a Fire Protection shirt or pants. Dhali managed
to drain Drake down and finish him with a Flame Bolt IV about 45 seconds
in, leaving poor Chinook to fight all alone. Though I was certain
Chinook couldn't kill Dhali, several things stood between Dhali and
a victory- most importantly, Chinook's run skill, which was 100 points
higher! Still, the match slowly tilted in Dhali's favor. After fizzling
Leaden Feet IV about 40 times (lol, he is still the fizzle king) Dhali
landed it and then Slowness IV right afterward, then a few drains,
and Chinook retreated over the hill. Dhali then threw Quickness IV
and Sprint Self IV on, which drew an excited murmer from the audience...things
were about to get interesting. The two combatants ran over the hill
and disappeared from sight. When they reappeeared, Chinook was at
low health, and Dhali Harm IV'd him to death right in front of the
seating area, drawing thunderous applause. A great match and great
effort by both men.
Next we had a rematch between me and Dhali. I went with Lightning
this time and resisted the first Fire Vuln IV as I ran across the
battlefield. He landed it as I was hacking on him, and I disengaged
long enough to throw on my Fire Protection IV pants and re-engage.
Dhali landed a few drains and was back to full, I had to disengage
again and heal myself. I came in and hit him for 10 a few times, and
resisted a drain. He drained my stamina, then followed up with Flame
Bolt IV when he was at half health. I knew I had it then, because
the casting time on a Flame Bolt IV would allow me to get him VERY
low on health and force him into nonstop drain mode, a race I knew
I could win. The Flame Bolt IV hit for 64 points of damage, leaving
me at 121...Dhali fell shortly afterwards. It was another good fight,
and remember everyone, I have 15 levels on this guy!
Dhali had to go and we wished him farewell, but boy did he miss a
fun fight :)
Finally, it was me against Drake Draco, Druss, Sister C, and Chinook.
I was really looking forward to this :) First off, Chinook was going
to be the first target for sure, and, in case anyone was wondering,
I had my run buffed to 272 for this fight. My armor level at the front
was around 660, with Impen V on shield and armor and Armor IV ring.
Sister C landed Imperil I right as the fight started, but that only
made me lose 20 points of armor. The largest problem I faced was the
large number of different damage types...I knew Chinook had Lightning
arrows, Druss had his axe, C would be using piercing, and Drake probably
his Silifi. Chinook started hitting me with FROST right off the start,
but that wasn't much of a problem since I ran RIGHT for him, and started
kicking his ass. He turned and ran, and he probably doesn't know this
but he was dead except I hit a lag spike and he got away :) I think
he was at about 10 HP.
I turned and threw on my Cold Protection IV and saw Drake cresting
the hill in hot pursuit of me. I loaded up a full power shot and killed
poor Drake in one hit (how many HP do you have, Drake?), which must
have demoralized my opponents slightly. Then Druss and C were on me.
I started attacking Druss and was disappointed to find that I could
only do about 4-10 points of damage a hit, and that I actually MISSED
sometimes too! (Side not here...my Spear Mastery gauntlets were off
for the fight because I didn't think I would need them. I instead
went to a different jewelry configuration which included Coord Gloves
so that I could use a Quickness Ring and Sprint Shoes.
On the plus side, they were doing SQUAT to me, but buffs don't last
forever and I was worried they might eventually hurt me if mine went
down. It was about this time that Chinook returned and shot me in
the back for 11 or so with a LIGHTNING arrow, prompting one of the
funniest damn things to happen all night...I removed my top armor
to take off my Cold Protection Shirt and put on Lightning Protection
III, BUT I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE IN MY INVENTORY I PUT MY
AMULI SHADOW COAT! So I ran like an idiot as I FRANTICALLY searched
all of my packs for where I dropped the damn thing- with people hacking
and slashing me all the way. I'm pretty sure the only thing that saved
me was that they were hitting low, because my armor level from behind
on my upper body was -20 for about 20 seconds before I found the damn
coat...not until Chinook had shot me for 27 a couple of times, though.
I drank some healing potions and stamina potions and got back into
the frey with Druss and Chinook, and then I heard Sister C healing
Druss.
This meant she had her wand out. No shield.
I took off after Sister C but she got here shield out before I arrived
and I was stymied again. Chinook was really starting to piss me off
with arrows for 6-12 each time, (and my missle defense SUCKS so he
never missed), so I fought C and Druss while I waited for him to get
too close...
And he did. I stuck to him and with no lag spike to save him I cut
him down, leaving just C and Druss.
I still couldn't hurt Druss, but with Impenetrability V on my armor
I was pretty sure I could afford to take my wand out. I did, and when
he was only hitting for 5-9 I knew I had him- I brittlemailed his
shield and went to town on him for 22 a shot, and he fell.
Sister C fought valiantly but there was no hope, with only one damage
type to concentrate on, I chased her into the hills and dropped Piercing
Protection IV on and also Piercing Bane V on my shield, bringing it
up to Unparalleled Protection (or 560 AL). Sister came back and gave
it a try but couldn't land Imperil or Piercing Vuln on me with my
180 Magic Defense. Eventually she resigned herself to her fate and
went at me mono-e-mono, and went down.
Great effort and I'd like to thank my opponents for one of the funnest
times I have ever had.
Were you guys fellowed for this? I'd have loved to have been a fly
on the wall during THAT fellowship chat :)
PLEASE comment on your matches and reply to this, I had a great time
and I'm sure you did too. Jamie, thanks for taking the initiative
and writing a "Fight Night" post first to get everyone started...but...WE
STILL have to hear from C :)
