About Losing Your Stuff

Here's the questions:

Does everyone have the death items they need?
What value does a death items have to be to protect your stuff?
Does everyone know what to hunt for death items?
Does anyone here actually try to fight without death items?
Does anyone here actually try to fight without the basic buff jewelry you need for you character to be in top form?

Let me answer those for my character:

I have all the death items I need: 24 4,000p+ items and 12 Greater Mana Stones. These protect my jewelry, weapons, and armor.

My death items HAVE To be 4k+ or they are basically useless. The highest value item I have that I use is a Strength IV ring, value 3.5k. I have died A LOT while wearing it and I have never lost it. I also have a 6k Item V Orb, and I have 4 or 5 7k+ death items to try and protect it. It drops about half the time, so I know I will lose it sooner or later.

I hunt Altered Drudges, Banderling Maulers, Banderling Manglers, Banderling Thrashers, Olthoi Nobles, and Umbris Shadows for my death items. They are the only creatures in the game that regularily (as in almost every kill) drop 4k+ items.

I never try to fight if I am going to lose something good on death. NEVER. I only fight if there is a 0-1% chance of losing something good.

If I DO lose some jewelry, I immediately go to mule for a replacement. IE if I lost my Strength IV, I would go get a Strength III before doing ANYTHING else. If I had no replacement Strength III, I would ask people for it, and hunt Dillos/Olthoi/Golems until I found a Strength III.

This is the way I play. I'm not saying it's better than any other way, but i would definitely recommend it.

Some more advice. If you're only using LV III and IV jewelry buffs, you should EASILY be able to protect your jewelry if you are hunting Olthoi. Your jewelry will be worth 1.7k-2.8k, Olthoi drop things that can easily protect that stuff. EASILY. They'll leave you a good 3k piece of junkelry every 5 kills.

So hunt some Olthoi, pile up 12 pieces of crap to protect your stuff. You'll get a buttload of experience and such while you're doing it, and you'll rack up some cash too.

And another comment...LV's 30-35 are the worst spot for your Melee to be stuck in as far as death items go. You are starting to use expensive items, but you can't hunt Olthoi without getting owned every so often. Ergo, death items are hard to get. This is why you will lose lots of stuff in between LV's 30-35. Once you hit 36+ you can hunt Olthoi to get your junkelry, once you hit 40 you can go to work on Nobles, Umbris, and Thrashers and really start to clean up. 30-35 bites though.

Two of our most well-liked LV 32's, Mizu-No and Chinook, are notorious equipment droppaz who are in constant need of resupply :) This is not because they are doing anything wrong (for the most part) but because they are stuck in the 30-35 melee rut where you can't hunt anything that will drop DI's for you.

Chinook has lost everythig of value that he has, TWICE, while Mizu-No is the mystic netherworld where Olthoi Helms go to die. :)

The key to stopping this 30-35 problem is cold cash. You can create an artificial safe-haven for your items by loading up on Greater Mana Stones. This is VERY expensive, but will buy you a couple deaths worth of worry-free PvP time. So the solution probably is to hunt some Gigas/Ravenors, sell, and buy Greater Mana Stones with any cash you have. How do you get extra cash? Kill the Guardian of the Helm and sell his loot. Fiery Shield is 10k at Teth, Helm is 7k. That is how I got death items when I was LV 30-35. (I just carried the shield and helms because I have high STR, but you lower STR people will want to sell them and get Greater Stones)

At least that would be my advice. Then you won't lose your stuff and you character will be in top form :)
