Dryreach Invasion part 2 11:44pm EST - Ji-Masoto

Dryreach Invasion...Part 2 One of my favorite adventures in Dereth of all times was the invasion of Dryreach that I led way back when, slaying Tumeroks left and right with the only surviving members of the attack force being mainly from The Source! I have been thinking about having a second one, with possibly a bigger army, although that may be hard to manage considering the turnout I had the last time :). The next one will be happening in June some time, email me at [removed] to confirm your spot in the army.

This adventure is just something that is fun to do and will give newer Source members a chance to see what it is like fighting in a big groups. I am thinking that maybe characters around levels 12-25 should participate so that way nobody will be getting all the kills without anybody else having any fun and also so everybody should be able to hit most types of Tumeroks. I am undecided on whether I will be taking Ji-Masoto (level 16 axeman/healer) or Haroji (level 10, almost 11 unarmed/archer/healer). I hope to see as many of you as possible show up for the invasion.

I should have a definite date on it within the next week, but expect it to be near mid-June.

Here is a list of the current list of prospective new members (as always, let me know if I have overlooked someone). Please send your vote to me by the end of the day on Friday (5/26) if possible (seems this is a long holiday weekend coming up -- would be nice to get them pledged in).

1. Blackdevil: Blackdevil is being sponosred to the council by Pethor, who is also his proposed patron. Blackdevil was lvl 15 as of Monday, he is a swordsman. We have not had an 'official' group outting with BD but I think enough people have adventured with him at different times to satisfactorily vouch for him.

2. Gullvieg: lvl 25 mace and real life friend of Snakeyes. Snakeyes and Nezbeth are sponsoring Gullvieg to the council and Snakeyes is his proposed patron. Gullvieg has adventured several times with Nez/Deao branch.

In this event, the more people we have the better. I don't know what we are going to be doing other than just mass attacking everything we see, but we might want to try and push our way to the 'Fountain' which has never been explored.

We'll see how things are going, and make up a plan as we go, depending on how many people we get.

For those of you familiar with the Obsidian Plains, try to find a spot we can all get to, far far away from civilization, with a nice hunting spot and I know this is impossible, but are there any lifestones anywhere out there?

I'm counting on you deep Obsidian plains hunters to find us a good spot.

Mare and I are going to be busy Saturday day which is one reason for the late start, The other is that this should make it more possible for the west coasters to join us as well.

Make a pot of coffee - I want this to be a long one. :-)

The Fountain

I want to take over the Fountain.

If this is possible, I have no idea.

But I am betting that no one but us could do it, because no one else HAS.

The Fountain is the CENTER of that huge crater.

I will be showing up for Big Event Saturday wearing a Matty coat, and some high AL backup leggings. Super Joshie Axe and Hammer of Olthoi Smashing Goodness will be home. I will have a backup hammer and a backup axe with me.. I will have some nice expensive death items.

We will of course make every reasonable effort to recover all bodies, but sometimes people have to go, and sometimes it gets late, and, well, I know I have a lot more fun if I don't care that I die and lose something mediocre..

Also, the place we are going sounds HORRENDOUS.

It sounds like one of those places we could clear, and then it respawns, and we lose three people and CAN'T take the fountain again, then it gets late and people have to leave with three bodies still at the fountain.

So, mule the good stuff people. Come with a 33% Yumi if you have to. No one is competing for loot rights here, we're just getting together to adventure together.

Heres a description of this place.

This is the center of the crater in the center of the obsidian plains. The coordinate is approximate, but within 1-2 degrees. The reason it is not exact will be apparent once you read this.

This place is one of the nastiest in all of Dereth. It is black, save for a forest of tall mushrooms (3x human height), and blue gemstones... Densely spawned throughout the area are virindi - puppets, servants, and masters... along with tusker guards and obsidian golems. In the very center of this crater is a large pink fountain that is surrounded by tusker guards (no less than 20, perhaps as many as 30). I ran by very quickly so i didnt see the nature of the fountain. I will explore it again and add more later, or hope that someone else has discovered its secret and will add to my tale.

This place is about 5 - 10 mins away from the HOLL. You know you getting close when the mountains all turn black. I'm only a level 30 fighter. I ran up to the fountain and ran out even quicker. Scariest place I've seen so far. If you want a massive challenge go for it.

Learning Spells 9:22pm EST - Sister C

Approximate skill level needed to learn each level of spell (your mileage may vary):

Lvl II: 50
Lvl III: 70-90
Lvl IV: 140-160
Lvl V: 180-190
Lvl VI: 225-230

Skill level to learn lifestone recall: 90-100
Skill level to learn portal recall: 90-100
Skill level to learn portal tie: 120-130 (seems to be particularly difficult to learn)
Skill level to learn summon portal: 170 to learn , 180 to cast without fizzling *too much* :-) Can be learned/summon at lower levels but with much lower success rate.

Timmy's Macroing 9:29pm EST - Rojon

Can you tell us what kind of routine you had Timmy macroing? For example, in your early teens, did you cast a lvl3 Life spell then a lvl 3 creature spell? Every ten minutes? Is that when the XP you get from casting stuff goes back up to the max you'll get?

You basically cast every level of spell that you can cast in each school every 10 minutes.

If you are low level you cast a lvl II and a lvl III in every school.

Mid levels you cast level III and lvl IV.

You get xp for the first successful skill check which is passed, which for the spells is the first of every level/school every 10 minutes or so (I use 11 minutes for rounding).

SO, every 11 minutes Timmy casts:

Armor III (life) for 200xp to the Life Skill
Creature III (Creature) likewise for 200xp to Creature
Life IV (Creature) for 300xp to Creature
Armor IV (Life) for 300 more xp to Life

When I was working on his item it was also Imp III and Imp IV.

Now he ID's a lvl III and a lvl IV scroll every ten minutes to build Arcane.

Last night I added Item III and Summon Portal for Rimgar who asked for another route to Teth from Mayoi. ;)

This works out to about 1500 xp every 10 minutes, all of it directly to skill and about 10% of it actually spendable as CP.

To those who have made comments about Tim "macroing his way to level 26", I say this:

Tim has died 47 times. :)

'Nuff said.

P.S. His base skills stand at Item 179, Life 171, Creature 167, War 135 (:P) and Mana Conversion 132

Ok guys here go the events of tonight:

after us all running from the lair of death i was left in a quandry, go hunt with sac and rojon, go hunt with my new found friend reiki anzho, go hunt solo. so i decide to go solo, i roll into weijou and the lag is bad, i am bored. i decide to try running to the new town. rojon tells me a rumour he heard that it is at 59s 88w. so i head north to 59s, then i find a canyon heading into the black hills that goes due west. i decide to take it, so i end up in a freaking narrow path packed with all kinds of nasty i just run through them EVADING stuff bcos melee def of 200 is just cool for a mage to have (hell its cool for ANYONE to have) so then the canyon ends, and i enter what can only be described as ... the obsidian plain. ohmigod, this place is badass, if i had ever stopped i would have been crushed by 13 obsidin golems 4 tusker guards and countless other nasties. so i run the whole width of the plain, i get to the otherside and am like hell, now i cant get down. well i got down to regular altitude with the help of mr LAG mr SILVER RAT, mr GOLD WASP and mr FALLING OFF CLIFF BUG. i die.

ok that sucks i lost 4 death items AND my white al 260 700bu heame... doh,

so i decide to use my brain and run around the plains this time. its a tough ass run but not impossible, and way easier than the plains, i pass amperehelion vault on my way, i think thats the electric one (ampere/lectrik gettit?) so i go loot my body and then start heading west, now these mountains are a sonuvabeotch to navigate thru but the local fauna is way easier to contend with.

**sidenote, the landscape out here is beautiful, simply gorgeous**

i get to the town and start jumping/running about like a lunatic, i visit the VIRINDI archmage called CLAUDE on the sign out side it says "a human archmage" inside is a big blood splat on the ground and a virindi called claude lol, he is very urbane to my suprise, i have soem pics, also one funny thing is while he is standing there he takes off his mask and cleans it then puts it on again, i took a pic, but am not sure if it cane out ok.

there is also a bs town crier there that gives you BS for stout. he told me that bael zharon was lord atlans illegitimate love child, that an elf was seen in arwic, that tumeroks ride aurochs, that there is a new type of weapon with a funny name, it forms into any shape.. and is ORANGE. also told me to look out for hamuds fez of invisibility lol.

there is a barkeep, healer, bowyer, armourer, jeweler, weaponsmith, mage. ivory crafter, leather crafter. also a lifestone, a portal back to baishi

now the bad news,

turbine did it right... it looks as tho there are no dungeons close by, that means no tieing to exit portal and bringing all your friends,

so looks like you will all have to run out here if you want to visit, a side effect of this is that the place is so not packed and lag is really good there.

ok so the cords are 59.8S 88W have fun i suggest going around the plains, if people want a guide there just msg me and we can sort it out some time

Well this update started yesterday, but I've done some major work to all the people pages: roster, allegiance tree, contact list, and character by class to reflect all of the info I could make it through from the list. There were a _ton_ of mails I never read, so if you have any updates, please send them to me (perhaps in addition to the list) but at least addressed directly to me.

I promise to read all the mail that is addressed to me but I will only read list mail if the MD5 checksum of the contents is divisible by 139.

New City ***SPOILER*** 7:38pm EST - Hakeem

The rumored location of the new city in the dires is located at 69.3S 88.1W.

The mage there is a Virindi. (??)

Not sure if any of the location is accurate or not, but it will be one of the first things I try and hit tonight, most likely.

There may be new things for archers and mages as well, not listed in the build notes. I've heard really good things about the scroll bar for mages, which should be nice.

1) Go to http:\\www.egroups.com
2) Get registered there. You'll be asked for an email address and password. Give the email where you want your spam to be delivered.
3) Go to your inbox. Reply to the email from egroups. You have to reply to this email before you can start getting the egroups list spam.
4) Go back to http:\\www.egroups.com
5) Log in (use the email and pw you typed in Step 2).
6) Now go to http:\\www.egroups.com\group\acthesource
7) Click on the subscribe link

You should now start getting the spam in your inbox. You can visit the archive to see what you've missed.

There may be a simpler way to get signed up, but these are the steps I followed.

You probably won't see this message for several days, but I hope it helps anyway.

The one we always used was 216.165.162.116 I didn't know of one for DT, but Silent and I use it with me hosting. For obvious reasons Pete, I'd love to chat with over RW on HG, but not on DT, as great as the chatting is, strategy when it all hits the fan is the best part of RW on DT.

Finally, at long last, here is the info on the latest group of perspective members. Please send your vote to me by Wednesday, May 3, 2000

1. Barak (lvl 12 gharundum axeman) and Balgarion (lvl 12 gharundum war/life/creature mage): Both these characters are played by the same person. They are both being sponsored to the Council by Chinook. Tentatively Barak's patron will be Chinook and Balgarion's has requested that his patron would be either Khali (if Khali is going to be active again in the near future:-) or Deao. Both characters have adventured with source members.

2. Stylgar (lvl 12 sho swordsman): Stylgar is being sponsored to the Council by Hiro. Stylgar has requested Hiro as a patron.

3. Mandrek and his vassals: Mizu mentioned wanting Mandrek and his vassals to join the source and I assume Mandrek would pledge to Mizu. Mizu has hunted with Mandrek and one of his 15 vassals.

4. Fenrir: Lvl 26 mage. Technically Fenrir is already pledged to Deao, so this is mostly a formality. Lutz (mage) is a vassal of Fenrir.

5. Gobei, lvl 10 unarmed Sponsored to the council by Draco and Draco is requesting to be his patron. Gobei has had a group outting up to bandy hill with Draco and 3-4 other source members

The following are not new members and they don't technically require a vote:

1. Tim the Enchanter (Rojon's mage) - has not selected a patron yet (or my memory is failing me yet again!)
