Flash From the Past 8:20pm EST - Garurumon

Hello Guys,
Man this is bringing back memories. Its cool all the people I really miss from AC are still on this old list. As much as I miss you guys I don't miss AC at all. EQ is a blast and super addictive, although we
play it a lot less then we did AC, but of that may be because it is summer. Chanda and I are still kicking ass as a team, she plays Shezilla a lv30 Iksar(lizardwomen) Shaman and I play Devimon a lv31 Iksar(lizardman) Shadow Knight, oh yeah at level 20 we took Razortayl as our surnames. Both of us have magic although mine if very weak since I am mostly a warrior, think anti-paladin. Shezilla is sort of like a druid from D&D but with more stat buff and debuff spells. Devimon can summon a little skeleton pet to help out in fights and soon, lv34, Shezilla can summon a wolf to be her pet. We
still haven't fought any of the really big stuff, like dragons and gods, but we have killed lots of giants. It is sooooo cool to kill things that you barely reach the knee on. I will have to think up some stories to share, have to get back to work.

Laters,
Thad....once Garurumon Uber-mage of HG....now Devimon meatshield for Shezilla

Tree Business 8:20pm EST - The Silent Spearman

First off, Elron.... Natalie was two choices:

Swear to Fletch McGee...

Or....

Natalie, who doens't know anyone in the Source very well except for you, could swear to you, much in the same way that Sensai is sworn to Drake (we've gotten to know Sensai quite well since he started) :)

Currently the tree looks like this:

TSS Druss Mizu-No
Dhali Zak'Nafein
Sister C Drake Draco Sensai
Chinook
Fletch McGee (everyone else)
Elerain Keuldan

There are a couple of people right now who are close to hitting 30 and entering the senior tree: Herrimone and Mhali. I'm not sure where they are going yet.

I saw Dhali on very briefly yesterday just as I was logging of and didn't get a chance to chat with him, so there are still a couple of Dhali-related tree matters that need to be addressed.

First, we need to get Zak'Nafein sworn to Dhali.

Second, Erie needs to be sworn to Fletch, as far as I know, in place of Zak'Nafein.

Sensai, you have the same choice as Natalie-Portman, you can stay sworn to your buddy or swear to Fletch.

Elerain Keuldan will be swearing to me. This is the only possible option since he's LV 47. There won't be a new branch of the tree forming under him, he will have no vassals. This is to prevent up and coming vassals from having to be divided any further.

I need these changes implemented. Zak, if you catch Dhali online, you two drop what you're doing and get it done.

Announcement 8:00pm EST - The Silent Spearman

Most people who want to join us are clueless newbies, whiney punks, total liars, d00dspeaking idiots, or any combination of the four. They would contribute nothing to the group and would be a complete waste of time.

Today however, I met a very nice Shollos by the name of Elerain Keuldan. He is a LV 47 mage.

He isn't a moron, he seems articulate and polite.

He agreed with all our rules.

This is the first time a reformed PK has wanted to join us, and the reformed PK wasn't, for lack of a better term, a complete dingleberry.

Still I wasn't going to let him join, without spending some time with him in-game, seeing what he was like, etc, but he told me a few other things about himself (including the surprising fact that he was a friend of Miko K-Sun's on HG) and I became convinced that he deserved a chance.

He is swearing to me unless anyone can see a reason for him not to.

Try not to be too worried- there isn't much of a downside to this. If he is as nice as he seems, he will be a great addition to the Source on DT. If he's just playing me for a fool (and I doubt this), then I'll boot him out. Simple as that :)

In any case I'll take full responsibility if he causes problems, but I don't think he will. He doesn't need a minder.

He will be joining the listserv and writing an introductory message sometime in the near future. Give him a warm welcome.

Only time will tell. I'll keep you posted on this development.

What attack type to use 7:53pm EST - Ravenwood

Hey everyone,

I was always curious as to what attacks work best against what monsters, so I did a little bit of research and wrote a couple of HTML pages and put them at this address:

http://members.xoom.com/rjtelford/AC/AC_Monster.htm

The attack info will look like this: (Low) P++ C+ E+ A S- B-- F---
Use a low attack and then lists best to worse. The number of (+)'s is how good, (-)'s is how bad.

This is a work in progress so any suggestions on how to make it better will be appreciated.

Oops 7:33pm EST - Khali

I guess I forgot to ever add the link to the Silent Spearman section to the nav on the left. Plus, I never added the link to the library index, so effectively the entire section has been completely hidden from view.

Oops.

Well, let this then be a re-introduction of a section devoted to the writings of our most esteemed DT monarch, The Silent Spearman. He has written often and well on every subject from the practical to the heroic. For those new to his work, please peruse the history as even his oldest posts are still today relevant. And for those list veterans who read them all when the virtual ink was still wet, take a moment to enjoy a flash from the past. If you look carefully, you may even find a chink or two in TSS's armor though such failings are rare compared to glorious conquests and unbelievable composure.

All of us Source who have spent any time on the DT server owe a great deal to TSS who blazed a trail there for us. Let us all then, belatedly, welcome his rightful placement next to Druss on our site.

-Chris (Khali), Source Webmaster

New Lists 7:33pm EST - Khali

Chinook started two new eGroups lists: SourceNews and SourceSpam. Chinook has asked that every source member join SourceNews (a moderated list) while membership in SourceSpam is optional. If you are interested in joining, you can use the links on the left to subscribe.

Rojon's Pics 7:33pm EST - Khali

I guess Rach' helped Rojon post some pics to a subdirectory (/thesource/rojon/) when I wasn't looking. Phil has gotten some nice pics of Aerlinthe so please check them out.

I wouldn't mind doing this kind of thing for others if they want to zip up a directory and mail it to me at my work e-mail. Send me mail at [removed] if you're interested.

Lifestone Wayyyy Up North 7:33pm EST - Miko K-sun

ok a few people got there brains picked by me last night ... I was asking them about a lifestone druss posted on the DT board up north with a mayoi portal by it.. well I never found it.. I started in eastham last night and ran the beach frag hunting with a-chu for ever and found one.. I tied we logged... today I ran some more... well all the way to the ore refining place along the beach... that's hours of running :o).. what did I get for my time? 4 cracked and a good spot to lifestone..

86.0n
27.7w

I would think the way to get there is get a ride to the pit and run ... there is a roaming bowyer next to the life stone... there is a stone hold portal on the hill and a Qualabar portal east down the beach a
click or two ... so you have access to towns.. Mikko is lifestoned there now and portal tied to kara lug citadel.. if he needs suplies he can go to Q then to hebian-to.. where I can either shop or um well miko can get there by recalling so I just transfer stuff... I recomend killing the shore dillos while you look for frags... I have been able to wear armor III the whole time from the ones I've picked up off the dillos and I'm up to 20 copper scarabs now too ... the beach is not that tough.. only came close to dieing when a LT spawned on my head.. he was the only one I saw all day.. A-chu and I saw 1 last night.. the xp is
crap.. dillos are the best at 1k a kill so.. I kill them and usually run past the rest unless it looks like i'm going to get in over my head...

Not sure if this is the best place to hunt frags.. but I saw nobody all day and liked it

DT Notes from Monarch 9:17am EST - The Silent Spearman

Hey guys, nice to be home after such a long trip down south (not far south, but south nonetheless). The revelry was as over-the-top as I expected, and many a night we covorted into the late hours, lost in a maelstrom of beer-fueled conversation...[snip]...I had time to do a lot of thinking, as well. In any case, here's some comments on the the DT Source, the game, etc etc that you might find interesting.

1. Listserv

Out of the 527 messages that I had to sort through upon my return, I daresay that 350-400 were complete CRAP. I am not going to name any names or give any examples of what I thought was junk mail, nor am I going to enforce any "no spam" regulations or suggestions about what replies are frivolous and which are acceptable. I'm only going to give you my personal opinion, and that is that the quality of the posts on this list has deteriorated considerably since the middle of last month.

2. Hot Dog.

He will be given his chance at reform. I believe I made it clear that everyone deserves a chance, and as such we are going to follow that doctrine and give him his. I will be giving him a C note in lieu of the death items lost to Mizu, and issuing an apology to Scat Killer for the incident, for which I will take full responsibility. Mizu-No, needless to say, is blameless here (indeed, we wouldn't want Mizu to act any other way, it's part of his style)

5. PK Raids and our response to them.

If convenient and you feel so inclined, organize, energize, and then brutalize :) If you're having fun hunting elsewhere, feel free to decline. It is as simple as that. Fun comes first, any so-called "duties" that we might have as antis bring up the rear.

6. Pooling Of Resources (change in policy)

This is important. The Source is no longer pooling all shards, frags, motes, and quest items. Why? It's not necessary. We are a brotherhood, and instituting rules that may or may not prevent unfair dispersal of items doesn't seem to be too prudent when unfair dispersal won't happen anyhow.

Everyone keep your own stuff, and if you need something, post to the list about it, like so:

Hi, I'm <insert name here> and I'm questing for my Atlan! Any motes you could donate to my cause would be greatly appreciated!"

Trust me, the Source are good people...anyone who isn't questing for an Atlan will soon have to swimming in motes :)

7. The Allegiance Tree, Special Vassal Assignments

I had originally said that I would try to accomadate any special requests as far as "Can so and so be my vassal? Can so and so be my patron"

Let me inform you all now that I will not under any circumstances allow anyone in the tree to have any more than 2 direct vassals. This is for organizational reasons and is non-negotiable. You can be friends with the person, hunt with them, see them as often as you like, the only difference is that they won't be your patron. The Source is so close that I'm sure many of you won't notice a difference...I bet a lot of you feel like you have many patrons :)

8. Derogatory Language

I use the word "gay" to refer to objects or sets of circumstances in a derogatory fashion quite frequently. Ironically enough, I never use the word gay to refer to homosexuals. This is because in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with being gay, and my labals for people generally don't take into account sexual orientation. However, since the word "gay" has been irrevocably changed by society's uncouth use of it to denote things that are unsatisfactory, weak, or flimsy, I often lapse into the vernacular and use it in that manner. For example, portal logging is "gay". Often in my basement I will mutter about the "gayness" of the Olthoi Noble evading me 15 times in a when it is at 1 health.

In any case, I don't see anything wrong with it, and I think that since so many fools have ruined the word "Gay" by using it to refer to things which they BELIEVE are out of whack, effiminate, or generally unsatisifactory, we might as well push the word the rest of the way into the gutter and have the homosexuals (who don't deserve to be labelled "gay" when most people consider the term derogatory) find a new word for themselves.

In short, forgive me if I lapse and make a faux pas remark now and then. It's just not a serious issue for me.

9. Business that NEEDS to be taken care of...please try to get to this when it is convenient:

a) Drake, swear to C
b) Zak, swear to Dhali
c) Dhali, I want a report on Fletch's current LV, Alchemy skill, and Fletching skill
d) I have 32 motes and I already have my Atlan...who has 200 base skill and wants theirs?
e) Dhali, does Fletch have Leadership?

10. New Guideline

I would like all people in the Source to maintain a loyalty score equal to 2.5 X (current level)
This will improve the flow of XP up the tree and make levelling easier for all with vassals. For example, a 25th LV character should strive to achieve a loyalty score of 62-63.

Comments and feedback welcome.

PS: It's nice to be home. See you out there!

YZK Passes the Torch to Yhun 9:22am EST - Yhun Zhau-Khan

Yhun Zhau-Khan looked sadly at the letter he had written. It was addressed to his comrades in his allegeance, the source. To think that he would be leaving that which he loved so, disgusted him and brought a tear to his eye. The messanger next to him fidgeted, waiting to deliver what was in the
owner's hand.

He read it to himself:

My fellow source members and protectors from evil,

A great change has happened to me. Whether good or bad, I cannot say. I feel myself growing old.. and tired. The lust that made me ride into battle among you is dimming, and I feel unwilling to fight. Also, I feel a great calling from the north... I know not what it is, but it is calling me. I am being drawn to somewhere in the north.. but why or who is calling me I cannot say. Lately the call has been getting stronger, and I feel I cannot resist it anymore.

Also, yesterday I was slain in battle by White Snake. His atlan claw pierced my left leg in several places, and I cried out as I fell to the ground. Something strange happened when I was ressurected; I went to collect my corpse and I felt pain in my leg. A searing pain that was almost unbearable. I had to aquire myself a cane like an old fool to collect the money left on my body. This is not normal, and I know that the lifestone's magic must have faltered somehow.

I feel that I must find out why I am being called, and in my present condition, I cannot fight anymore. Take care my friends, I will be back hopefully someday. If you wish, you may take the services of my young son, Mhali knows how to find him. He wishes to swear allegeance to spearman and
take my place.

Farewell,

Yhun zhau-khan
YZK: the abomonation

"You will take this to Druss of the source, you may find him in yanshi. How many pyreals do you ask in return?", asked Yhun.

"1,000 pyreals should be enough," the messanger answered. "But I will have to watch out for player killers, Blood members have been seen in these parts alot more often."

The Messanger ran off through the portal to rithwic. After a minute or 2, Yhun put the hood from his robe on over his head. He had left all his armor and weapons on The mule who says ni, and is forever glad to be rid of that strange person. He always said Ni! after everything he said, and never explained why.

Yhun took a deep breath, and made his way down the road to the north, leaning on his cane.

Time: 8:30PM - 11:30PM EDT (GMT-04:00)

MacroBot Upgrade 8:53pm EST - Farik Il'Kadar

I have upgraded MacroBot!

The main feature that has been added is the File Load feature. It now uses the standard Windows dialog box. No more typing in the file name. And no more clicking Start before you've loaded the file :)

Also, I have prettied up the app a little bit.

You will not need to update your scripts to work with version 1.0. The core functionality is almost identical.

Please read the readme.txt file. Which is still an ugly text file. I have updated the documentation, telling you how to use non-text characters, plus some other goodies.

Enjoy!

Tree Time 7:59pm EST - Miko K-sun

Ok it's time for the new Tree UNDER DRUSS!!!!!

First Step:

Mizu-no would you please release Simone so she may pledge to Druss
Direct

Second Step:

This is all up to everybody to do on there own... Once Simone has Pledged to Druss there Will be a Tree that has almost all HG only members in it.. Simone has 39 followers ... 36 or which are under Miko
K-sun... Simone's 3 Vassals are: Miko K-sun, Sac & The Cisco Kid .. they are all HG active 85% of there play time.. Of my 36 followers only Khali is Mostly DT active with Vassals (Runac is 50/50 but has no vassals) .. I only care about with Vassals.. if you don't have vassals they none of this matters... Khali and Rach' mann have to decide what to do between the two of them ...

Once this is settled the tree is ready to take on members... This is how you join this tree:

if you have a DT patron and want a HG patron then work it out with your DT patron to release you and then find a new patron in the HG tree (you may also find a HG patron that is not in the tree if you wish).. Two examples that will most likely be joining this Tree are Gryff and Stylgar... each of them needs to work it out with there present patron then select a new one if they wish... They also need to work out there vassals on DT if there is a major amount of them that fall under the Khali example and not the Runac example.. I know that Nez is Gryff's Vassal and is full time DT maybe never to return to HG... Gryff needs to settle how he wants to handle that with her since she has followers... She can remain that is not a problem (same with Khali), but please remember that the idea of the tree is to get it as HG organized as possible... Every Person who leaves this tree (whether they don't agree with it or for some other reason) should select a new patron of the other branches.. I think there will be 4 branches after this move: Mizo-no branch, Sister C branch, Red Wolf branch, & the new Simone Branch ...

Please make your choices wisely.. it is important not to upset the Patron/vassal relationships that we have going on

This will not be easy on some (mizu I apologize as I know what simone means to you having been your first vassal)

Let's not make an allegiance shattering move out of this.. let's remember that we are all family and this idea is to bring us closer not push us apart

Please Please Please talk out your concerns or e-mail me directly if you have worries about doing this

Keith (Miko K-sun)

Back from vacation 8:46pm EST - Khali

I'm back from vacation spent on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my family. For all of you out there who spend more than 50% of your life at a keyboard and monitor, I highly recommend taking at least a week away. Yes you will miss it, but nothing there is too important to put on hold for a week or two. And the time spent in the real world makes a huge difference.

For those who came looking for new material, I'll try to get some new stuff up this week.

See you in Dereth,

-Chris (Khali)

HG List 5:28pm EST - Hiro

If you want to subscribe to [removed], you must:
1. Be a member of The Source.
2. Send an email to [removed] with the following info:
a.) Your AC character's name
b.) Your patron
3. Send an email to [removed]

I need this added, because if you were previously subscribed as "Web-only", you now have no idea why you were kicked - you can't view the archives unless you are subscribed. So I'm getting a lot of mail about that today.

Patch Day 5:22pm EST - Khali

Patch day has been extremely frustrating to those who were home trying to play, but extremely fruitful for those of us who were simply reading the spam. Looks to be a light month for new stuff.

Thanks Bob Dole 5:08pm EST - Druss

Forgot to save the chat log.

Some frustrated last night, I go to Yanshi and kill every Pk I see and hunt
for more. Oh my god do I want to kill people. I kill a level 30 blood, Ice
Cream man level 22 I think and a host of others.

Chase a PK out of town. Come back into town to loot a PK I killed earlier.

Bob Dole attacks me immediatly.

I run to armory, jump up on roof.

Takes him a few tries to get there.

But he does.

Imp III on Reedshark legings has expired.

we start to battle and he is SMASHING me.

Kills me

loots me.

I run back into town and run up to him trying to see a level.

he is 44.

I take off, he runs after me,

"Druss wait!"

I stop, knowing him to be a man of his word who "gets" it.

"Want your olthoi helm?"

"Yes please"

Bob Dole gives you olthoi helm.

"You are still too big for me Bob."

Bob dole says "he he"

Bob dole says "I know I would be pissed if I lost it. so..."

Bob runs off

You say "Someday I will give you back your olthoi helm. :-)

Bob dole stops

Bob dole says "he he"

You tell bob dole "Thanks Bob, I've had a rough day and that helps a lot."

later

Personal Attacks 3:59pm EST - Khali

Dear readers of The Source web site:

Something very disturbing has happened in our community. One of our members has been harrassed as a result of playing the game on the Darktide Server. The message itself cannot be misconstrued, though its true author is unknown. Though the act should be condoned by no one, when the activity was discussed on the Crossroads of Dereth boards, the worst that this game has to offer came to the fore. Let me point out that this has nothing to do with a simple PK vs. Anti argument. Many of those we respect the most are PK. The scum who perpetrate such crimes deserve only contempt.

I will say no more about this incident here other than to summarize some of the fallout of this incident:

  • The entire Source is outraged at this incident
  • Both mail lists are now invite-only
  • The Source, collectively, is not posting on the CoD boards
  • There are a lot of sick people in this world, and several of them seem to play AC
  • The Source will not tolerate harrassment
  • The Source will continue to be a "Radically Anti" force on DT
  • The Source will continue to enjoy AC as a game

Aerlinthe Clues 9:09am EST - Nansense

New stuff on the zone launch page. Here's the bit I found interesting:

However, the sighting of a great beast brought them back for more. The “Behemoth of Tenkarrdun,” a huge and powerful (though stupid) magma golem, had crawled up from the depths of the mountain to blister and squash all who dared approach its home. It was, eventually, overwhelmed and killed. Some
say a mere duo managed to slay it, others insist that it took an assault of nearly a hundred to bring it down.

Unfortunately, Aerlinthe has managed to keep its remaining secrets for the time being. As Leafdawning drew to a close, the bulk of the invading force of fire elementals still held the caldera of Mount Tenkarrdun. While many searched unsuccessfully for some obscure, hidden method to end their reign, few seemed willing to directly challenge them in open combat. Perhaps this was due to the fierce conditions in the crater, or perhaps because what commanded the occupying forces could not easily be discerned.

That 2nd paragraph either describes why it took so long for somebody to kill the Behemoth, or implies that there is another singleton creature to kill, other than the Behemoth.

I think it also implies that the answer is not as subtle as everyone thinks and that maybe people should just look around the caldera.

Looking forward to Level 45.

Ken
