Dole
Got His.... 5:47pm EST -
The
Silent Spearman
Dole will be licking his wounds for a while, since me and Dave
beat the shit out of him twice tonight (Dave did it once by himself)
and looted him of a total of 10 greater mana stones and handed him
10% Vitae. Smoked Kryptonian again as well, Dave killed God Son
(lol), and I killed Allusion and about 10
other PK's in Lytelthorpe, Baishi, Shoushi, Mayoi.
This is actual dialogue after killing Kryptonian. A movie script
couldn't have been funnier. After I loot him, he runs up as a white
dot...
Kryptonian says, "thanks assholes"
The Silent Spearman nods, no prob.
Dhali says, "Anytime."
Fought Thai to a standstill, made Kage and Kaptain Kourageous log.
Made Fun-Dun-Chi run for an hour. Fought a BR to a standstill after
the moron attacked me thinking I was "the silent spearsman",
one of my MORON PK imposters.
Killed two Lava vassals in Mayoi, made Code Line portal log.
Quite a night of fighting. Didn't die once.
hehehehe

About
Fletch And Realignment Of The Tree 5:47pm EST
- The
Silent Spearman
All people sworn to Fletch will stay there until LV 30, at which
time they will be able to move to an appropriate spot in the tree,
if they wish. I'd personally like to see some of you stay under
our alchemist to bump his XP up even higher. That choice I'll leave
to you Fletch vassals, but as it stands now I want all of you to
stay sworn to Fletch until at least LV 30. This is necessary if
you want to build an alchemist.

EUREKA!
5:40pm EST - Rojon
The "summon anywhere" bug works, and even better than
I'd suspected!
If you're not interested in how stuff like this works, I apologize,
and suggest
you hit the "next" button. I'd appreciate input from people
though, as I think
there's opportunities here I haven't even considered.
I've been a professional software developer for over 20 years,
and while I
haven't actively programmed in quite a few (having done it for two
decades and
gotten sick of it), I've never tired of trying to break things and
make them
work in ways they weren't supposed to. ;)
I guess that's part of why I loved Magic: The Gathering so much.
Given a
structured environment, can you make things "do stuff"
they weren't supposed to
and not "break the rules"? Its fun, its educational, it
drives the developers
nuts and makes other people go "Ooooo". ;)
Yeah, I loved combo decks. :P
Well, since Sac was kind enough to show me where to get a free
copy of AC (you
need a Pentium III processor PC) I received one and set up a second
account
mainly for the purpose of creating portal mules so The Source could
have its own
"subway" in the Mayoi meeting hall.
I created Roiga Thiloi ("What? What? Stop calling me, dammit!")
using my
standard portal mule template, 100/10/10/10/100/100, specced in
creature and
item, trained life and macroed her to level 18 in a week so she
could summon on
her own self-buffs.
Roiga isn't going to be a "summon anywhere" mule, but
since I was making her
anyway I decided to use her as a test case. Since you're supposed
to be able to
take these mules through summoned portals, I tied Rojon to the meeting
hall, ran
to Nanto East and summoned her in.
She spent the next 7 nights and some days casting Creature Mastery
II, III, and
eventually IV, Swift Killer II and III, then Blood Drinker III and
IV, and Acid
Pro II, III and IV. At level Six I taught her recall and I was disappointed
she
recalled to the meeting hall drop point. I then read the you're
only supposed
to be able to summon to an outdoors location, so I let it slide.
I guess maybe
they can't go through summoned portals after all, but then again
that was the
purpose of this test, wasn't it?
Last night her item skill was high enough to learn Summon, so Peter
tied to the
meeting hall exit for me, and Roiga and Timmy left for the hills
of Mayoi. I
wanted to be sure there wasn't any confusion about where her portal
would drop
us. I relog Roiga, run a ways, then have Timmy buff her and she
summons. Timmy
goes through the portal...
...and he's suddenly downhill where she relogged. Double check
the coordinates
and NO, he's not where the mayoi exit is!
Eureka! It works, and she CAN go through summoned portals!
Since Peter's going to tie to the meeting hall anyway for the evening's
event, I
run Roiga down to the Mayoi armory and demonstrate summoning to
him and he lands
at the armory as expected. He summons Roiga into the meeting hall
(remember,
such a portal mule can't ever go through a tie-able permanent portal
or it will
ruin their "summon anywhere" status and log Roiga in preparation
of the night's
Nexus camping.
Then I decide to get cute. Lets see where she summons when she's
indoors. I
figure the meeting hall drop off since that's where she went last
time.
Roiga summons, Rojon goes through and...
...he's standing in the mana pool! Cool, this works indoors as
well!
Once again, is such a mule practical? Dunno, that's the next project.
Things
to test now include going through a permanent non-tieable portal
(Ayan BSD,
Jahannan Vault, etc.) and seeing if she can still summon there,
allowing people
to tie to a 'non-tieable' portal, and doing the full lifestone recall/portal
recall cycle.
Imagine this...
The Source has decided to go for the Major Fire Stone.
Everyone knows what a major pain in the ass this dungeon is, how
frequently
people die, and what an aggravating run it is back from the nearest
lifestone.
Portal Mule has already been summoned to Crater Village and made
the hazardous
trek up to Jahannan Vault. In fact, PM may be permanently "stationed"
there.
At the appropriate time, The Source members gather at PM's lifestone
on the
beach in Mayoi and the mule logs in by Jahannen and lifestone recalls
to Mayoi.
PM then summons a portal and those who can portal tie, then go
through. PM does
as well, returning them to just outside Jahannan Vault, then logs
off and goes
back to sleep.
Now, everyone doing the dungeon has a portal tie to just outside
the vault and
can recall on death, and if there are non-item people around, PM
can repeat the
process for them if they die returning them to the dungeon without
the 1/2 hour
run through the mountains of northern Dereth.
I'm thinking PM's actual template is something like 10/10/10/100/100/100,
speccing in Run, Melee Defense, Item and Creature, with Life trained
or picked
up along the way, allowing them to (hopefully) run almost anywhere
and survive
the trip.
Input appreciated... Sorry if this kinda stuff bores you...

Thought
process change from HG to DT 8:02pm EST
- Mizu-No
Soo
I log into HG with my Dagger Busted guy Zane Brendan.
I am in the Halls of Methos.
There are like 15 other people in here with me.
And the first thought that roles through my head is
THERE HAS GOT TO BE A PK IN HERE FOR ME TO KILL
Look at all these people at least one will be a blood or a shollos
or a Xai.
I start iding people as fast as I can and I realize I am ignoring
the drudges to id people.
Hmmm
The tactics that serve so well on DT are useless on HG.
Fast id
target acquisition.
An a nice dollop of paranoia
All useless
I was talking to Druss at fight night while we were running to Shoushi
during the break looking for evil to smash
And
We realized something. THIS is what we thought of when we first
created the Source.
A small band of Elite heroes with no fear. Stomping out oppression
and evil.
Earning a reputation as the good guys and making our world a safer
place.
We have come full circle to the place where it began
Standing by The well in Yanshi
With 20 or so good friends.
Ready to take on the world.
I am proud to be part of this group.
Looking forward to hunting Evil for many Moons to come.

Mizu's
and Drake's Blood Kill 8:02pm EST
- Drake Draco
After Druss and Mizu got back from chasing the 4th attacker, we
were in Yanshi and I see Mizu bolt off after someone. Mizu has no
fear guys, he just jumps headlong into a battle. Did you even check
his level?, or did you just see "BLOOD"? Of course, I
run right over and help out.
Flaren says, "Feazh Zhapaj"
Mizu-No says, "drake here "
Flaren says, "Zojak Quareth"
Mizu-No says, "a blood"
You shock Flaren for 27 points of electrical damage!
Flaren says, "Feazh Zhapaj"
You jolt Flaren for 54 points of electrical damage!
Scaticus Rex says, "Cruath Quatak"
Flaren says, "Puish Zhasith"
You jolt Flaren for 54 points of electrical damage!
Flaren says, "Shurov Thiloi"
Your lightning coruscates over Flaren's mortal remains!
Can you say "getting you ass handed to you"?? He had
Mizu targeted and I was behind him.
Druss says, "that was quick"
Mizu-No says, "got him drake"
You say, "nice stuff too"
Mizu-No says, "good kill"
Druss says, "hes high level dudes"
You give Mizu-No Mana Stone (Greater).
Druss says, "one shot kill or what?"
Mizu-No says, "damn it he affected me i hate that"
You give Mizu-No Gold Ring.
I think I'm gonna like hunting PK's

Introduction
8:02pm EST - Elron
Hello everyone, many of you have seen me at the two fight night
meetings of the DT source and i am now the newest member of our
esteemed group. My character is Elron, he is Unarmed/item/life.
I don't know many of you because i am not from the HG server. I
used to play on FF actually....im Hiro-protagonist and crescentfresh
in that world....but those characters have been stagnant for weeks.
I basically just play on DT now. I hope this means that i will catch
up to you all over the course of the next month. I'm very excited
and proud to be a member of the group. Can't wait to see you all
in game again.

Almost
got the bastard God Son 6:58pm EST
- Mizu-No
As we were standing by the lifsestone in Nanto
God Son logs in on top of the lifestone and bolts through the portal
to the meeting hall
My buffs all drop at about this time
Matter of fact I actually had my staff in hand trying to buff again
when he appeared
Me and Druss run through the portal looking to waste this loser
Druss thinks he went back out
I have a feeling that he is in the meeting hall still
I am right
You tell Druss, "he is in here"
You say, "Cruath Quasith"
The magic rushes mightily through you.
You cast Imperil Other II on God Son
Druss tells you, "on my way"
God Son tried and failed to assess you!
Druss tells you, "30 seconds"
At this point I bail out
I have no buffs on
But I should have fought him
Buffs or no buffs I only had to hold for 30 seconds
I was a wimp here and it kept me up late that night
You tell Druss, "i got an imperil on him"
God Son tells you, "you little prick"
You tell God Son, "got ya"
God Son tells you, "now i have ot wear armor while i hunt"
You say, "Helkas Quasith"
God Son tells you, "lose"
By the time Druss gets there God Son left the area
Next time God Son

Source Outing: To Camp the Nexus dungeon! 7:29pm EST
- Rojon
Time: 8pm EST
Meeting Location: Mayoi Meeting hall
Some folks will be running ahead to tie, as Miko and Beryl have
volunteered. I would appreciate it if you two would work out who's
going.
DON'T BE LATE. At 8pm EST PROMPTLY a portal will be opened by one
of the aforementioned fearless advance guard and you will be teleported
to just outside the Nexus where you will probably be attacked by
gold wasps, granite golems or Dires Drudges (take to steps to your
right and enter the
safe dungeon portal
We will need at least 2 mages to assist with emergency acid pit
recovery. I have recently come into possession of a Heal IV orb
which I now keep on my person and at least 2 Heal III orbs.
Tim the Enchanter will also be on call in case of emergency as
I don't think he could make the jump over the pit (though his death
items now consist of pyreal scarabs so...
Deao, I think you have plans elsewhere/when but would you be available
in case of emergency? Ordius? Carma?
Druss has promised to MAYBE put in a personal appearance.
You need a decent (200+?) jump to get over the acid pit.
Just past the acid pit is a "safe" room where you can
rest/buff assuming Sac doesn't drag multiple Revenants on his ass
into your naptime. :P
We will camp the rooms past the acid pit from at least 8pm to 10pm
est in search of 4 Dark Revenant Thigh Bones.
Any questions? No?

Gryff
Retiring 7:29pm EST - Gryff
Its been a long haul but I guess its time to call it quits with
Gryff. Without life magic(does not get till 85) its becoming too
difficult to make xps these days. I don't get enough from things
I can kill and have a difficult time killin those that do give good
xps. I kept playin him this long because I liked hunting with all
the guys. Now most of those people are gone and pretty much solo
100% of the time. I will still play Gryff from time to time but
he will no longer be my primary so sometime next week I will release
all my followers and be startin over. My apologies to all of you
but I don't think its fair to have people sworn to a char who does
not play so I will let you go. Cyall later its been fun.

Same
Bat Time, Same Bat Channel? 6:52pm EST
- Tamo
I think I speak for everyone involved in the Katar quest when I
say that last night was a BLAST (not to overshadow the meeting or
anything, you understand =] ). Definitely one of the better outings
I've been on, personally. It was well-organized and well-executed.
Four of us walked away with katars last night, and not one of us
died...not bad for a few hours' work.
I'd like to do this again sometime next week for the benefit of
those who don't have a katar yet.
Four people come immediately to mind: Boreal, San-Mitsu, Valerion
Bar-Po, and A-Chu.
The spawn rate of the dagger is 15 minutes (we timed this). That
puts us at an hour for camping time alone. If anyone else wants
a katar, please respond so I can put your name on the list and so
that we can adjust the outing time accordingly. I'm thinking we
should all meet in Qalaba'r again. That worked pretty well.
In my mind, Saturday afternoon, tentatively 1-2 pm EST would be
optimal. That way Boreal's not up until all hours, and the rest
of us get to fire up the barbecue before the sun sets (not that
that ever happens ANYWAY...*grin*). Thoughts?
Last night's group was pretty well concentrated as far as levels
went. The extremes were Red Wolf at 35, Boomstick at 28, and Fun
Chow at 15. The rest of us were between 22 and 24. I'm pretty sure
everyone I mentioned above is within or close to that range. Class
breakdown was 6 or 7 tanks, 2 archers, and 1 support mage. Seeing
as we were up against four or five shadows at any given time, I'd
probably recommend a similar breakdown for this next outing.
Provided that Boreal, San-Mitsu, VBP and A-Chu can come, that puts
us at 4 tanks and one archer. We still need a few more people to
round out the group. Here come the explicit invitations:
Red Wolf, you know the route like the back of your hand. I could
use a guide on this excursion if you're willing to come out again.
=)
Jackaroo, you got those Imperils to stick pretty well most of the
time. I'd be glad to have you on board again, hint hint...
Astura, we all know you and Jack are a matched pair. I could definitely
use another archer... =)
Ling Poh? Feel like ventilating a few more shadows? Whaddaya say?
Anyone I didn't name is, of course, IMplicitly invited. C'mon, who
feels like doling out another Source-style beatdown? I'm really
itching to try out this katar, ya know...
For anyone who doesn't know, and wants to come along, you will
be going up against:
- Zefirs (Jibrit, Kilif, Zofrit) -- just whack 'em.
- Shadows (Children, normal, and 2-3 Lt.'s) -- bring fire or slashing
stuff.
- Sclavus (Se, Aste, Essa and Sata) -- cold if ya got it; if not,
slash.
Here's hoping this'll be another success in the making.
- Jess/Tamo

Island
Trip 5:59pm EST - Miko
K-sun
6 PM east saturday July 22, 2000
meet in mayoi meeting hall
Must be lvl 45 + to go
Miko K-sun will summon a portal to Sylsfear dungeon where we will
make our way ( lead by Rojon) past some banderlings, shadows (regular,
LT & Pans) and undead (Liche Lord & Revenants) to a mid
dires portal .. here is a lifestone .. attuning is recommended ..
we will then go 1 click away to a NPC that we will give a D note
to summon us a portal to Aerlinthe..
Agenda:
first we will go down to the water line and Deao will lead us in
some Coral Golem smashing.. We will do this for 30 min or so just
for the pleasure of killing them .. this of course can change if
there are
others there.. Coral golems: you should have on your highest armor,
bludgeon, & acid protection.. they hit hard and cast acid stream
VI .. no debuffs at this point..
Then Miko K-sun will lead you on a short run around the hills
to a valley he likes to hunt .. at this point the objective will
be to make our way to the bottom of this valley (killing it all
of course) .. and
turn our attention towards the volcano and T-shirts .. making it
to the T-shirts is our ultimate goal on this evening .. anybody
who wishes a T-shirt should ask.. we may get that far
The primary monsters we will see will be:
- Wasteland Rats, lvl 75 acid breath
- White wasp, lvl 103, cold V blast
- Banderling maulers (walking chests), lvl 120, fire club, imperil
IV, cold Vuln IV (must be a bug), flame bolt IV & V
- Altered Drudges, lvl 103, lighting sword, lighting bolt V,
imperil V, Lightning vuln V, various debuffs
- Augmented Drudges, lvl 88, fire sword, flame bolt V, imperil
V Fire vuln V, various debuffs
- Cursed bones, lvl ?, fire sword, have shields no magic and
annoying
- Malus shreth, Embers, Flamma, all just stuff to kill no real
threat
Committed to attend so far ( as always this can change at any minute)
Carma
Deao
Hunters Chase
Miko K-sun
Rojon
Simone
Miko's Rules
- Don't be late for mayoi and be ready.. if you are late or not
ready then everybody gets to sit around and go ho hum
- Hang with the group.. running off can get you 5% and cost you
a D note
- Fellowships are a must and will be determined on level.. I
expect that Deao and Carma will be doing Imperials as they always
do and no fellow means little xp for them.. at this point I expect
a level 45 - 50 fellow and a 50+ fellow.. should keep the xp even
and nobody (miko) will be hogging it all
- Loot rules: we will follow this simple rule because Carma and
Deao want the pleasure of opening a beast too.. disclaimer, we
know loot is not a big deal on these trips but we all like to
open a monster just to see if it's cool.. so looting will be this:
on Coral Golems, Banderling Maulers & Altered Drudges we will
be taking turns alphabetically (no we wont be strict and about
1 hour into this hunt we will all be fat with loot anyway)
- Buffing.. buff on the run is how it's going .. we will have
2 full buff sessions: when we first hit the island before we take
on coral golems and when we get close to miko's valley.. after
that buffing and afk will go like this .. if you need to buff
pull back to a safe spot and buff .. if lots of people need to
buff then lots of people buff .. if two and it must be at least
two (no solo) are buffed and ready to fight they may engage monsters
that they can handle .. examples: miko needs to buff he pulls
back and throws on some quick buffs.. he then hits the fridge
for a drink cause he is thirsty.. while everybody else is fighting
(no leaving a buffer behind when we advance) .. another example
everybody seems to need to buff .. Rojon and Deao are all set
everybody else is buffing.. They are free to kill stuff no waiting
on the rest of the group (but they may not get in a fight they
know they can't win) .. this should keep us active and nobody
siting at home going god another buff session ..
- at 10 pm east we will survey our progress to see if it's time
to call it a hunt .. this is the point in time we try to make
it that we can go to bed by midnight east.. this will be a group
decision on what to do at this time
- not so much a rule but a sugestion.. bring a slashing weapon
.. it does well on the stuff out there and Carma and Deao can
hit stuff with imperel and slashing vuln.. clearly you need something
else for coral golems .. this will make us kill better as a team
- Miko is leader of this expedition and my rules to follow are
here.. you will not see me yelling at people for running off or
attacking.. it's your D note .. you get members of the group killed
not
following the rules then again it's your D note ..
Ok that's covers it ...
Miko K-sun

Contest
Results: Scavenger Hunt 8:50am EST
- Ordius
Well, a whopping TWO people entered the scavenger hunt contest,
those being Rimgar Redsun and Red Wolf. This contest wasn't open
to just people with "R" in their name, so I don't know
what kept them. Everyone involved had fun with the hunt, and here
are the final results:
Rimgar Redsun: 12 Items, 4706 pyreals in value.
Red Wolf: 16 Items, 17341 pyreals in value.
Congratulations to Red Wolf, winner of the first (and probably
only) Source Scavenger hunt! Please contact me to collect your prize
of a backpack full o' money, and let me know if you want it to be
in Teth C notes or Ayan C notes :)

Chase and Flip 8:50am EST
- Rojon
Everyone please welcome Hunters Chase and his patron, Flip to The

In case you don't remember, Flip is the mage who killed the Shadow
Captain during the shadow invasion of Fort Tethana a couple of months
ago.
His vassal Hunters Chase is a 45th level MACE user and currently
has some god-like equipment but is already collecting for Blast
Jr. and Crimson Shadow.
Flip has pledged to Rojon, though I have no idea why the big red
guy deserved it.

Event
Nights 8:50pm EST - Dhali
It seems to me that the group we have on DT are very tight. We
are always helping each other, which is great. But when we have
an event like the Impious Staff quest, Group Night at the Lugian
Citadel, and Fight Night, everyone really pulls together...
That being said, some of our people that started less than a couple
weeks ago are getting to the age of 'quest item' range. Folthid
Cellar for Tikola's Dagger. Lugian place for Hollow Weapons. Matty
Cave for coats (Can never have enough of these...) Composite bow
part hunting. Etc.
Our event area has been somewhat lacking by necessity lately, but
I think people are getting a bit higher and level, and can easily
start tackling some new challenges, and/or events.
I'd like to see everyone come up with at least one or two events,
pick a night, and have Silent add it to the list. Let's see if we
can schedule more events for this month, and start scheduling for
August.
What is in the game that you really want? What is it you need?

Templates 8:50pm EST -
Khali
Just FYI, I made a new eGroups database today called Character
Templates. I went ahead and put Khali's DT template in just as an
example. But I think it'd be nice if people would put their char's
starting templates in the database to let new players see some different
possibilities.
Also it might be worthwhile for people to post themselves and then
add comments about how this or that was a poor choice.

Retiring
10:35am EST - Jerod
Sinj
Well after todays AC excursion I am calling it quits.
The AI in this game is just so bad that a mage can nuke a monster
and it never attacks yet I walk by and it bum rushes me and kills
me - the entire time the mage is nuking the hell outa it. Oh that
is some
incredible programming their.
I waited and waited for the patches that were going to fix specialization
and melee - when they came they were a joke.
This game had (and probably still has) incredible potential and
maybe someday they will unscrew it.

Why
Mages are leaving DT 10:35am EST
- Dhali
Many mages have put their accounts up for sale on E-bay. I'm sorely
tempted to do so (thought I doubt anyone would buy it if they know
why people are selling them.)
Hollow weapons are in the game, and pretty much will hit you for
maximum damage, just about every time.
While standing in Yanshi, buffed, I was attacked by Cokaine and
Ravenclaw, both with their nice glowing Hollow Weapons. Not Ravenous
weapons. Hollow ones.
I had Armor V on. I had Impen IV on my robe. Normally this is enough
to stop simple weapons from low level characters as these. (Cokaine
is 3 levels below me. Ravenclaw is mid 30's I think)
I normally have at least enough time to get off a Recall if things
go badly.
Nope.
I was killed in under a few seconds by these two and their new weapons.
Turbine provided mages robes as a lightweight armor that can be
buffed to make it almost as good as armor. Now they counter that
by adding hollow weapons that pretty much means that if you wear
a robe, you die. You have no armor whatsoever. Why buff? Everyone
will soon have these, and I predict will start keeping most mages
at 40% vitae. It's really not hard.
Alternatives: Wear armor.
Armor is too damn heavy. Yes, I can wear a Matty Coat. Yes I can
wear Reedshark Leggings and a studded leather basinet. But now I'm
vulnerable to a whole mess of other things. Now I have to cast 50
spells just to buff.
Have mages had it easy in the past? Sure. I agree with that. And
they had the advantage over melee. I admit that as well. But I don't
see how mages even have a chance now against melee. Maybe I'm missing
something, but this sucks.
Monty
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Dave, I know you to be a level headed guy, not quick to jump to
conclusions, or jump on the latest fad of whining.
So, understand me when I ask these questions that I am not doubting
you. Just that I want to understand.
How come I don't see you casting drain health here? Or anything
for that matter?
If two guys jumped you unbuffed, with regular bd3 or 4 weapons,
your death would be faster than this.
If you wear a matty coat and reedshark leggings, how does that make
you weaker to so many more things? And no matter what those things
are, do you really care? The main enemy is PK's.
You have often said how sick it is that mages at level one and two
can kill matties. And then a lot of mages go out to teth at level
10 or 15 and kill stuff to level. When you say it makes you weaker
to wear reedshark and matty, does that mean that now you don't have
a robe, maybe you have to fight things more appropriate to your
level?
And lastly -
I went to get arrows for hiro last night, I was wearing armor 3,
magic resist 3, fire pro 2, lightning pro 3.
I was attacked by two guys using acid weapons
I was killed in under 5 seconds.
No lie.
They attacked, I turned to attack one guy, hit him once, noticed
I was already too low to heal, and then I was dead.
We're all in the same boat. Sometimes, two guys jump you and you
die. Listing all the armor buffs you had on means nothing. Its like
me saying "I was wearing Lightning Pro VI and these new acid
weapons cut through me like nothing."
Yes, you do have to adapt. Yes, everything has changed. The real
question is HOW MUCH?
You were standing in town, in a buffed up robe, and you were killed
by hollow weapons.
Why does this surprise you?
Thats exactly what they were designed to do.

I
Quit 10:35am EST - Acklebar
Grumnish
I don't want this to come off as a rant or whining, but on my reasons
why this last patch significanly affected ME and why I won't be
renewing my subscription this month.
Actually, overall I think this patch is very good, but it just
happens to affect ME and the way _I_ was playing.
We all know this game is about goals. My #1 goal was to get shadow
armor. My #2 goal was to get shadow armor. My #3 goal was to get
shadow armor... you get the idea. The economy of the game is based
on cracked shards. Almost everything I did revolved around this.
Again, this is ME. This is how _I_ enjoyed playing.
A big goal I had before/along with that was to get a Peerless Altan
Staff. Got it. Killed maybe three creature with it. Looks cool and
that why _I_ wanted it. Wasted a million XP to get the skill to
get peerless but it's the best, and that's what _I_ wanted. If I
had dumped that million XP and then a patch came out as I was on
my way up to the crater that nerfed the Altan's, I would have been
pissed.
So how was I working for me shadow armor? By hunting Ravener's.
Yep. Killed tons of them. They drop guts. They drop keys. They generated
good XP. I can trade guts/keys for shards. Better XP and
a lot more fun that hunting Fragments. This is what I've been doing
for the last month, and could see a nice enjoyable steady progess
towards my goal. Very enjoyable. BTW, they did do something to make
the drudges tougher. I've seen a few posts now on this.
They had to do something with the shadow armor. I told this to
Dan (Hiro) before the path. They cannot have a give-able, no drop
on death quest item that is the best in the game. In time, most
will
have it (like matty coats). Quest items shold NOT be the best in
the game or everyone will have them in time (archers look to your
future. The uber-bow will not be here in a few months). They need
to have it end. Nerfing it without warning is not the way to do
this. There are several ways they could have done this.
First, the armor should be no-give. This would help from people
transfering it around. Sure, you could still give a gem to a low-
level character, but making it no-give would reduce this significantly.
They could have warned us. It may not go with the story line but
what the hell. Tell us this is the last month to get it.
They could have a way of getting assigned a quest in the game,
and then remove the assigning of it but still allow those assinged
it ot complete it. A quest flag. You talk to so-and-so or whatever
and
get assigned the quest. This would be very nice, and I bet the current
archers will be wishing for this when they pull the bow quest out
from under you.
I know this armor thing may seem minor, but they just yanked my
main goal, what was most fun, and a months worth of work out from
under me. I know that there are counters to all of this, but again,
this
is how badly this affect ME and what _I_ enjoyed in the game. There
are lots of others things, etc, etc, but I can't get over how much
this one thing has affected ME.
My renewal expires on the 20th. Unless they make some annoucement
changing the shadow armor, I'll let it expire. I may be back, but
right now I'd say I'm in mourning over this. I'm not going to sell
my account or any of my stuff. I hope in a few months I'll be over
it and be able to re-activate my account. I hear they can do that
for like six months or something. I may move some main items to
Hiro
to hold just in case... I'm sure he'd be happy to hold them in case
I don't come back :-)
Sorry I just barely got time to interact with this group. Those
I have talked with have been great. Again, I think I can get back
into AC, but I need some time to get over this. I'm going to enjoy
playing Diablo 2 for a while.
Thanks for reading.

Fight Night
7:34am EST - Dhali
Fight Night was a blast last night [Wednesday night]. I
would have to say this was a huge success. Thanks very much to all
who attended. Thanks to Silent
who helped me organize it, and helped resolve several issues. Thanks
to everyone from Harvestgain that showed up to watch. The pressure
was really on to do well last night with so many Source members
watching.
I enjoyed watching every fight, and really enjoyed everyone's company.
Thanks to Druss for helping me work
off vitae, and writing up the first, of hopefully many recaps from
last night.
Congrats to Chinook for taking
the trophy home last night.
I plan to write more, especially more on the fights I was involved
in, and look forward to feedback and tips for our next Fight Night.
I just wanted to drop a line and say Thanks to everyone who showed
up and supported us.

Easter 7:24am EST - Deao
That's me, chumpy. With my new experimental template. That's why
he hasn't
pledged yet :). Check this out, in case you didn't see it before,
and tell
me what you think of long term feasibility, that's what this guy
is all about
20/80/10/20/100/100
Spec:
Life Magic D Mana Conv Arcane
Train:
Racial Junk(Gharundim)
Fully intend to be casting level VI buffs by level 35(for life
anyway)
Another added bonus was pointed out to me by Gryff. With the spec'd
arcane,
I still have ranged attacks with monkey wands. So with uberhigh
life, I
imperil, then wand monkey the crap out of them. Spec'd mana conversion
means
the wands last FOREVER before they get recharged. Already level
5 with
him...expect him to be able to start standing on his own around
level 12(been
doing some math as to expected skill levels)by level 30, he will
be a mighty
beating stick. Since many of the high level creatures are taken
down
primarily with life magic, and finished with war, I expected an
easy
conversion to finishing them with monkey wands, or with big nasty
untargeted
harms, babeee. Harm VI is 70-100 I think. I have to check to make
sure.
Also, damage from said spells I believe is mildly adjusted for spell
economy
and skill level. I have already noticed a difference with Deao on
HG for war
spell damage. The higher my skill level goes, the more base damage
I seem to
get out of it. Just my thoughts. Of course, the guy is currently
a first
class gimp who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, but
with
Dhali's patience(my god your going to need alot of it) he should
be whuppin'
dat ass in no time flat.
Mike a.k.a. Deao a.k.a. Nicholas Easter"I'm a gimp! I'm a
gimp!"
* * * * * * * * * *
One comment though. If you think about spec'ing anything as a mage,
it's magic D. Everything big throws spells. EVERYthing. Cept for
tuskers and olthoi, and as a mage, you don't really hunt olthoi,
umbris drop just as good loot as a noble. Specing magic D is going
to be mandatory in any mage template I rework in the future. At
high levels, it's just so important. Not the same for a melee. They
just don't have the base stats to make it amazing like a mage can.
It's important for PK (Oh look, I resisted your imperil AGAIN:draindraindrain:and
again:blastblastdie:) and for monsters(No, silly umbris, I don't
want my life debuffed today, thank you, please drive through and
drop your loot in my bag) Just my opinion, but from experience,
I think it's a valid one

Dhali's
Tip of the day 7:32am EST
- Dhali
I learned something in Teth and have been using it almost everywhere
I go.
When you enter a building, like the mage shop in Yanshi, your field
of vision on your radar is very limited. You lose track of almost
everything outside the building which is very dangerous.
The Mage hut in Tethana is the same way, but I discovered you can
purchase your components from outside the hut, and still be able
to see what is around you on radar. To do this, you simply:
Target the person by clicking on their radar dot. Or by using the
= key on your keyboard.
Press 'R' on your keyboard to use the person. You do have to be
close to the person, so find the nearest wall that is close to the
person you are purchasing things from.
This works at the Mage Shop in Tethana, The Desert Mage, and the
mage shop in Yanshi to name a few.

Attention
Source Scum! 7:32am EST
- Damion Draco
Over the last couple of weeks I have heard many tales of people
in your
ranks invading my Citadel. I have heard how youve been mercilessly
slaughtering my brethren and subjects. I am here to express my
outrage.
This will be tolerated NO LONGER!!!!
Last night I got word that one of your subjects, Drake Draco by
name,
was in
my Citadel again. I have finally decided to do something about this
Source
infestation. I had my best mage cast a nice little curse on young
Drake.
The curse is quite simple: The next person to kill him will be his
primary
target until little Drake has 40% in vitea. The curse works in such
a
way
that the little worm will have no control over the rage that courses
through
him when he sees the one whom killed him or anyone in their monarchy.
To my greatest delight, my mage informed me that after Drake finished
filling is sadistic urges on my brethren, he competed in a friendly
competition with his good friends. It was during that time that
he fell
to
the toothpick wielding snot, TSS. Oh, this couldnt have turned
out
better!
Now you will be a Source of amusement for me as I watch you tear
little
Drake apart. He can try to resist, but it will be a futile attempt
as
he is
no match for my mages will.
You have had such a great time slaughtering my subjects, lets see
if
you
have as much fun slaughtering one of your own!
Watching happily,
Lugwig

New
Member 8:44pm EST - Druss
In case you didn't know, I pleadged to Deao on Monday night. We
went
hunting
on the obsidian planes with a descent sized groups of others from
The Source
(you probabally already know this, but anyway). Miko, Sac, Nezbeth,
Myself,
Deao, Simone, others too I think. I was a blast. At lvl41, I was
one of the
lowest lvls guys out there (I think Nezbeth is 40). Huge beaties
melted
like
butter before us. Very fun.
Here is a quick bio that you can post to the lstsrv if you wish.
--------------------------------
Hiro urged me to jump into the portal that would take me to the
world of
Dereth a while ago. I resisted. He would urge me some more. I continued
to
resist. Finally I caved. I made the leap. I haven't looked back
since
(well, let's not go that far).
This is Acklebar Grumnish. Currently level 41. I am an Arch-mage,
and have
been playing AC for around three months. This is meant to serve
a
get-to-know-me intro.
I have hunted almost completely solo my entire time in Dereth.
I can
remember
just about every instance of cooperative play. One day Hiro and
I camped
the
Matty Cave to get coats (which I still wear). It took a group to
get my
Impious Staff (3 of us got staves that day). Other than having Hiro
tank
for
me a bit in the beginning, and me doing the same for Hirofyre later
on, most
of my existance has been solo. It mostly has to do with play style
and
commitment. I love group adventures, but never had the trusted group
structure in the past to group, and life outside the game leaves
me in a
position that I need to eject on no notice at times.
In spite of my level I would still condsider myself a pretty novice
player
when it comes to actually experiance in the game. For better or
worse, the
new dungeons in the dires allow for the former 'wall' at level 30
to be
crossed with ease. I went to the Dungeon of Corpses just before
30, and
made
it to 40 almost exclusivly for killing drudges. That's a lot of
drudges.
Before that I learned the art of 'wall-hugging' and the Lugie camp
north of
Qualadar. Got my early and mid 20's there. Before that, Mayoi beach.
Before
that, Bandie Hill. Before that, Monster Castle on the east coast.
Before
that, my home town of Yaraq. Oh I've been here and there between
that
spots,
but once I find a spot a like, I'll hunt there until i'm done hunting
there!
(Sidenote here. I think some of this has to do with a crashing problem
I
have
with AC. It is supposed to be a video driver problem, but I've done
everything Turbine has recommened three times, and I still have
it. You
don't
want to be running in the middle of the dires solo and then in a
flash be
sitting at the desktop. The only thing that seems to fix it is turning
off
video acceleration, and the game looks so crappy that I choose to
take my
chances.)
Becuase of this play style I have the worst equipment that you
will ever see
on a Level 41 player. About the only thing that would really get
me worried
if I lost it on death would be my Matty Coat, and I never drop that
anyway.
I
don't have a mule. I sell everything, or if Hirofyre is on and I
think he
might use it I give it to him. I think this mule thing is about
to change
though. My number one want right now, along with just about everyone
else
in
Dereth, is Crystal Shards. And without a mule I just don't have
the trade
items. I'm not even sure what kind of armor or weapons are any good.
I've
only had 4 Sturdy Iron Keys, and sold everthing I pulled from the
chests. I
know i've sold a ton of weapons with BDIV, some with V. Some Quickness
V
item
comes to mind too. All turned into C notes.
By becomming a member of The Source I expect some of my type of
playstyle to
change for the better. I hope to be able to group adventure more.
I think
I
will need to mule now so that I can pass on items that would normally
be
sitting in the Weijou shop. I hope to be shown some new hunting
grouds, and
so show others where I have been.
I am tied to Weijou and LS at differant places as I move around,
but mostly
in
Qualadar right now. Maybe you'll see me there trying to buy Cracked
Shards
at
200k a pop. Feel free to say 'hi', and I'm sorry in advance my name
is such
a
pain to type. If I would have had any idea how bad the in game message
system
is, I never would have had the last name.

After
the crash 12:22pm EST -
Rojon
LISTEN UP - DO THIS WHEN YOU GET BACK IN
Do NOT fail to do this when you log back on.
As soon as you're portaling in, hit ENTER and type /LOC.
Since the servers reset a lot of people really won't know where
they are going to materialize. A lot of people are going to materialize
in the middle of a bunch of monsters and die immediately, with no
idea of their coordinates.
You might not have time to bring up your map. You might spend hours
trying to find your corpse. You might lose the damn thing and quit
the game.
DO NOT WAIT for your screen to clear the portal animation. Hit
Enter and type /LOC.
This will return the binary code for your landblock. It won't give
you the coordinates, but you'll get the hex code in your chat log,
which you can cut and past into ACGPS, which WILL give you your
coords.
I'd post the download link from the author, but it seems their
page is currently unavailable. You can download it from here http://www.egroups.com/files/acthesource/acgps.exe
but you might need to register with egroups to get to the page.
My advice is type /LOC, get the result in your chat log and hope
you don't die. If you do, you can always go get the program.
People who know me know this isn't a trojan or virus or something.
This has saved me countless times, and I've had to learn it the
hard way, since Turbine has stolen corpses from me in server resets
at least twice.
Good luck to all. Hope you make it.

Muck
Warrens Trip 12:45pm EST
- CyBlade Jr.
Hey guy I want to plan a trip to Muck Warrens for mid to
low lvl Source members. Where and what the hell is Muck warrens
you say. Well get with the times lost soul. Muck warren is only
the biggest most challenging Dungeon around. What is in there Mossie
and Bandies. By the hundreds. The place in out near Zhaikal and
in the middle out no where. the closest LS is about 7 clicks away.
This only adds to the challenge. When you
frist come in you are in a nice safe room. You can buff and rest
all day without problems. then you move on into a large room with
a surface portal in it. Then the fun starts. This place has a turbo
spawn rate. Mudlukers, Barkers and Shaman spawning like crazy. then
you meet a locked door. pick the lock (100 lockpick skill needed)
and you run into Bandie Hell. Raiders and Guards come in swarms.
If that is enough move on and you run into ravers, guards, raiders,
and breeders. coming at you like 30 or more at a time. No Lie 30
at a time. I never made it past that. The place got way to insane.
I was told there is a chest that spawns lvl II jewerly at the bottom.
That is great but if you want a good challenge or just want to truely
test your metal. Come to Muck warrens.
Carma is tied out there
and can give rides from Mayoi to Muck Warrens. Planning a trip for
Source members lvl 15-25. Bring all new vassles this would
be a great first outing. I'm thinking a Friday night or Saturday
morning thing. More to come later.

stuff that she couldn't. With Carma's
help she is now lvl 8 and Carma
and the new Cy will powerlevel until she gets up in her lvls a bit.
I gave her item and creature and spec in axe. I know the new update
is going to gibe some boost to nonmagic people but you know how
Turbines undate always fall short of what they should be. To all
CyBlade vassles don't
worry I'm sure I will out lvl all of you soon enough...lol With
the new dungeons spawn rate and Carma's
buffs she will become a leveling machine. Jamie has talked me out
of starting over many time but I just can't take it anymore. Wish
me luck and don't weep for Cy
she is still around just in a new skin...lol

- Valerian
Bar-po
Greetings Sourcemembers,
I am Valerion Bar-Po,unarmed warrior of the 21st rank.I was born
In Nanto east, and remained in the Nanto area until I was about level
10,and then I moved to mayoi...
Mayoi is a beautiful,yet secluded town,which ye all know,which
is why I have chosen it to be my permanent home.It has been a wonderful
21 ranks,and i wouldn't change a thing.......except,for one thing.As
I have progressed through life,I seem to have developed an empty
spot. At first, I didn't know what was missing, until I saw a group
gathered on the lawn in Mayoi. The Source.Every member that I saw
carried themself with such honor and pride, much the same way that
I try to live my life everyday.....I believe that the source can
fill the void that i currently have...
I have become friends with several members, and was invited to go
to the Folthid cellar for a source outing....What a memorable evening. With
two groups of five,we ventured into the cellar, literally demolishing
everything in our path, and having a helluva good time while doing
it.I became aquainted with A-chu,Tamo,and the rest of the small
army, and we introduced ourselves to the sclavi, who only seemed to
hang around for a few seconds at a time. That has to be one of the
most memorable evenings that I have ever experienced.
I hung out with A-Chu today,and we showed some shadows,and a small
troop of lugians who was boss...or did they show us?If given the
opportunity,I would be proud to be his vassal. I am online everyday,so
if anyone ever needs a hunting partner, It would be my pleasure
to accompany you. But be advised, sometimes Valerion bar- Po turns
into val the nekkid running man,not by my choice of course :)
So in turn,I ask that my name be considered to be a member of your
humble ranks.I will do my best to bring nothing but honor to your
guild.Thank you.
It hath been an honor and a pleasure,
Valerion Bar-Po
